That's placing a lot of faith in the Raiders staff that i 'm not sure they deserve at this point. The GM has openly stated he wants Pryor to play so he can see what he has which kinda points to the GM not having much faith the staffs evaluation skills either.

He disregarded NCAA rules, bringing down one of the most successful coaches in Ohio State history and a very decent man by most accounts. It seems very clear that he left Columbus believing that the sun shined out of his orifices.

What is emerging in Oakland is one of two things. Either the coaches are a bunch of idiots who are under-utilizing a prime asset or Pryor is not yet at the level of a pro-quarterback.

It's not something that Ohio State fans would want to hear, but it is likely that Pryor's weaknesses have been exposed in Oakland to the extent that the coaches don't believe it's worth the effort of putting him on the field. While TP did break rules, as has been noted in dozens of other threads, topics, etc. had Tressel just passed on what he knew, he might still be here. Did TP play a part? Yes. To almost blame him completely isn't fair because there were 4-5 others who played a big part in Tressel's demise.

Blaine Gabbert hasn't shown anything to make anyone believe he is an NFL QB but he's played this year, granted he is behind Henne right now. While that might not be a great comparison because Gabbert was a high first round pick as opposed to Pryor, a third rounder, Pryor should at least be given a shot to play and see if he is worth keeping on a roster.

Steve, you usually have really good down to earth points, but this is not one of them.

JT lying to the NCAA brought himself down. He did not have to cover for the tattoo thing but decided to bury it. TP was only part of a group that JT covered for. Let's stop putting everything that happened to Ohio State on TP's shoulders when only a portion of the blame is deserve. Does not matter how "decent" JT was, he made his own decision and suffered the consequences of that decision.

TP is not playing right now because of the Raiders' coaches evaluations, nothing more. He was a very good college dual threat QB. This really cannot be denied, all you have to do is look at his performance while he was in school. The Raiders' coaching staff has made the decision to not play TP for whatever reason, but when the GM is stating he wants to see the guy play and the coaches are going against him, that tells me there is an admin/player eval situation in the Raiders' camp more than anything else.

I know people here want to disassociate with TP and didn't like how he conducted himself while in school (me being one of them, quietly, but I was) but that does not take back the fact that TP was a good college QB, and with the right coaching could be a good NFL QB (cough**Newton**cough).

We know Carson Palmer will not play in the Oakland Raiders? season finale on Sunday in San Diego.

We do not, however, know who will be the Raiders? starting quarterback.

Oakland coach Dennis Allen said Palmer will not play against the Chargers after the veteran QB suffered cracked ribs and a bruised lung early in a 17-6 loss at Carolina. Matt Leinart took his place. No. 3 quarterback Terrelle Pryor played in a few change-of-pace looks.

On Monday, Allen said he will announce his starter later in the week. The team?s decision to play Leinart was a strong indication that it doesn?t trust Pryor to play in a base offense and Allen confirmed it after the game when he said Pryor -- a third-round supplemental draft pick in 2011 -- isn?t ready.

However, the fact that Allen isn?t ready to announce a starter for Sunday is an indication that the coaching staff may be, at least, considering playing Pryor.

I realize Oakland?s staff is concerned that Pryor isn?t prepared to run a base offense in an NFL game. But what?s the risk at this point? Oakland is 4-11. We already know what Leinart is -- a career backup.

Give Pryor some experience.

Perhaps he will show Oakland something. I know he had just one good preseason game and I know there will likely be a lot of moments of frustration if he plays a full game. But there are no risks.

The best trend in the NFL right now is the emergence of young quarterbacks. I?m not saying Pryor is one of these players. But we will never know if he stays on the bench.

Palmer will turn 33 on Thursday. The Raiders have a young quarterback and they need to see what they have in Pryor, regardless if he is ready or not. This is the perfect opportunity to do it. Oakland needs to take advantage of it.

Meanwhile, could Palmer have played his final game in Oakland? There has been some speculation the Raiders will move on because he has a huge contract for 2013. I can see a restructuring of Palmer?s contract, but I?d be surprised if he wasn?t in Oakland next season. There just aren?t any better options and Oakland has much bigger needs than quarterback going into the offseason.

Or maybe we would still see Urban at the helm. JT came to Columbus knowing he had to do one thing to keep his job, something Cooper- for reasons I will never understand- couldn't do; beat Michigan.

To that end JT recruited a kid with a troubled past, MoC. That kid played his heart out on the field, but created the kinds of problems that bring NCAA snoopers sniffing around the program. Then came the golden handshake with Troy Smith and the NCAA was taking up residence on Lane Avenue.

This was followed by the recruitment of TP.

I think it was a strategic decision. By now JT had to know the program was under a microscope. But I believe JT realized that he did not have a QB coming up to replace Boeckman. He put up with a good deal of it's-all-about-me crap in the recruiting of TP. He had to have his reasons, because a kid who demands extra weeks to sign his LOI is a kid inviting unwanted attention.

Why? I believe that JT had to be thinking that if an athlete like TP was allowed to slip into the hands of Rich Rod, his (JT's) streak of wins in The Game would be in jeopardy.

Had that happened, had TP joined Rich Rod, we might still be seeing slot dots in Ann Arbor and OSU faithful hoping that Urban could stop another long losing streak against TTUN.

As much as I don't like TP, there is no reason not to give him a shot. Sometimes a player is simply a gamer but doesn't practice well...this would especially make sense with an athletic QB not going full contact and getting a chance to show what he can do. As has been stated, Leinart sure as hell is not the future and if they ever intend to develop TP as a QB, they need to get him game experience and with playoffs out the window it is the perfect time.

The Raiders have nothing to lose and maybe, just maybe, something to gain by giving Pryor the nod this Sunday. I don't have high expectations, but I wouldn't mind TP surprising me.

When someone talks about someone having one of the "best arms" ever, most people realize that person is talking about arm strength, nothing else.

Fair enough. But if the ability to launch a hail mary 85 yards, with a 2 second wind-up, is the definition of a great arm, I think it says little-to-nothing about whether the upper limit of an idealized Pryor is comparable to Randall Cunningham. Cunningham was, from my perspective an excellent running quarterback and, a generally solid-to-good passer. Rarely a great one. Given what I perceive as their overall comparable athletic attributes, and roughly comparable throwing motions, I see some similarity there, if Pryor can develop as a reasonably solid passer. Regardless of whether he can wind up and launch a hail mary 85 yards or a mere 70.

With starting quarterback Carson Palmer out with cracked ribs, Raiders head coach Dennis Allen said backups Matt Leinart and Terrelle Pryor split snaps "evenly" at practice Wednesday.

Pryor later said that Leinart took "most of the snaps" - and that Pryor's share was "not much, but more than it was."

The third-stringer was in for all of three plays Sunday against Carolina. After the game, Allen said, "Matt's our backup quarterback. Terrelle's done a nice job. He's working extremely hard. We don't feel like he's ready to be the backup quarterback yet."

So, Allen was asked Wednesday, why the sudden change of heart? How did Pryor go almost overnight from not being ready to be a backup to competing for the starting job in Sunday's season finale in San Diego?

"We (got) a chance to come back and sit down and evaluate where we're at," Allen said. "Obviously, we got a chance to see what Matt could do, and we might need to see a little bit more of Terrelle. But we'll evaluate that as the week goes on."
