By the way,assuming he comes to OSU, do you guys expect him to get some PT at maybe DE or something like that as well? I know it's not advisable to have your QB playing more than he should, but the guy is such a freak athlete I would think Tressel may line him up at DE on 3rd down possibly? Just some food for thought.

Personally, I would not want to hamper his QB progression with defensive responsibilities. While he develops into starter material at QB, you could use him sparingly like Urban did Tebow.

I'll concede to that one. I would just hate to see a fan site talking about using a potential recruit in silly ways and that discussion get back to the recruit.

So to address the question, I think there is far too much technique playing DE to do so casually. Look at all the great athletes we have had on the DL who take two years just to make the rotation while they learn technique and assignments.

Other positions on O - especially WR - are a possibility.

I also recall Belisari playing on special teams as a Frosh. Not returning kicks - running down field and hitting people. He really gave himself up too. He was a fan favorite that year. Of course, he didn't have the potential we are talking about here and he wasn't playing for JT at the time.

As athletic as he is, I could see him playing a nickel back, but I highly doubt if he comes here that he would play anything besides QB. He has enough on his plate trying to play football and basketball anyways.

I know that he is a tremendous 2 sport athlete but if you does commit to Ohio State I seriously doubt if you were have much impact on the basketball court. By the time football season ends in January, I was saying that it would take him at least until February to get into basketball playing shape. In addition, we have so many wing players in 2008 that I don't see him making much of an impact on the basketball court.

I think Pryor would have no problem transitioning from FBall to BBall in the role that he will play. Th eBBall team is not going to be built around him as the fball team would be but his late addition will give us some unbelievable depth and almost solidify our chances at getting a Big Ten Championship and a NCAA tournament bid!

Agreed. Even if it takes him 3-4 weeks to get into the swing of things, that leaves him plenty of time to be an impact down the stretch.

If Pryor does end up here and playing hoops, I'd like to think he could provide energy a la Julius Peppers @ UNC. Tough D, a few monster dunks, that'd be fine with me.

TP's basketball talent level is beyond Peppers' coming out of HS. Peppers was a great athlete and a capabale basketball player, but he didnt have the game that TP does. IF he does come to tOSU, and was able to practice enough, he could do alot more than just be an energy guy.

We are talking about the 4th best SF in the country (per Rivals). He would be a prized basketball recruit for ANY team in the country, and he will come in and contribute to our basketball team right away as much more than an energy guy.

I hear Pryor is a very good basketball player, but he will be competing at the SF spot against Lighty and Turner (Buford and Diebler will be the SGs) who were also top 50 prospects, will have a year or two more experience and be playing basketball full time all year round. Pryor is going to be playing football only from June to Jan then again in during spring ball, and will have a lot of ground to make up. If he comes to OSU, the only year I really expect him to contribute much in BB would be his frosh year if Tressel red-shirts him and lets him start basketball right after the MI game. Hes a great athlete, but will be competing for time against other great atheletes who are playing hoops year round. He'd be a great asset off the bench but I just don't see how he's going to get a lot of minutes unless Matta starts missing out on big time recruits.

Anyone know if you can redshirt in football say as a frosh, then redshirt in basketball another year, say as a soph when we should be very deep at the SF spot?

1. Wherever Pryor goes to school it will not be with the expectation of being redshirted in any sport.

2. Clearly any football player is at a disadvantage trying to win a starting spot on the BBall team. However, with the style of ball Matta plays starting is not an issue. He runs a lot of people on and off the court and if he can find 10 minutes a game for Matt Terwiliger and 20 per game for Ivan Harris he can find all the time for Pryor that his performance merits. That is all any BBall player can ask. (Also, I see Lighty getting a lot of PT at guard in '08 with only Hill, Diebler and three Frosh on the roster.)

3. We will have 8 returning starters in '08 and only two will be upperclassman. I can't imagine a better scenario than that in a major competitive program.

4. If we are going to make comparisons about Pryror and other two sport athletes we need to look at kids of his size and freakish athleticism.

....and should Pryor come to Ohio State he WILL red-shirt. He has on more than one occasion indicated that he is pattenly aware that he needs a lot more development in learning how to become a big time college quarterback.

Pryor might not expect to redshirt, but the only way I see him not redshirting his first yearin FB is if all three of our current QB's are not very good. QB is obviously the most difficult position to pick and start playing right away at the collegiate level and with the experience above him at that position, I'd say he's at least 50-50 to redshirt his first year.

Matta will play a lot of guys, but by the time Pryor would get on campus, we will have a full roster which hasn't happened for a while. Pryor is a SF in basketball which means he would be battling Lighty and Turner for PT. Thats a lot to ask of a fr to beat out 2 guys who were top recruits and are experienced. Pryor isn't likely to play SG, but if he does, he will have to beat out Diebler and Buford (one of the top 2 SG's in his class) for playing time at that position. I could actually see him getting more PT at the PF spot potentially if KK leaves after 1 year because of his athleticism.

Twig and Harris have been getting minutes because of our lack of depth at the F and C spots over the past 3 years. We aren't going to be lacking any depth at the positions Pryor is going to be competing for and we are talking about a team that will be a final 4 contender.

I just don't see how he is going to miss that much BB time and be able to break into the 2-deep at any position other than maybe PF. The 3rd guy at any position is not going to get a lot of PT.

I hear Pryor is an absolute stud of an athelete, but so are the BB players he would be competing against and they are playing basketball all year round. If Pryor was 100% basketball, then I think he'd see quite a bit of PT from the getgo. He will be at a huge disadvantage to the guys that are playing year round and those guys are really good basketball players. My biggest concern about whether he chooses OSU or not has to do with the talent that he will be competing against for PT. There are other schools that he could play football and walk right into the gym and be a starter, but I think he's going to find it tough getting PT on the basketball team at OSU.
