QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

His passing has definately improved by leaps and bounds from last season. I agree that we probably saw a bit of a buttoned up offense today. I just hope the OL can protect him and get off on their blocks better next week.

OL looked fine to me. The backs need to block better and Pryor needs to read where the blitz is coming from.

I haven't seen the game yet; I had to listen on XM as I was traveling. However, one of the few clips I've seen is the 4th and 2 fail in the fourth quarter. On that play, the OL clearly didn't get the job done. The Pryor INT was thrown a little high, but looked pretty catchable. It doesn't sound as though Pryor had a bad day by any means, though. Again, in lieu of seeing the game (yet), the stat line gives a decent picture:

14/21 (66%), 174 yards, 2 TD (1 rushing),1 INT 145.2 RAT, 6 rush for 50 yards. By the way, as far as I can tell that's the highest rating of any quarterback against a high-quality opponent (the other being BYU/OU) OTHER than Max Hall or Sam Bradford. Everybody else put up playstation numbers against patsies/MAC teams/FCS teams.

So he had a decent day. Can he get better? Of course. He needs to get better, too. But he already looks a hell of a lot better than he did last year, and on a day when the offense clearly wasn't on top of their game.

I don't think this team will be as good as we hoped in the preseason. However, I think Pryor may be as good as we hoped (maybe not as good as we wished). He's definitely gotten better with a full off season under his belt.

TP had a fine day! (14-21, 171) I was hoping he would be allowed to throw more as Navy was stacking the line consistently to stop the run game. TWash dropping two very catch-able passes didn't help. Posey leaving the game(second half?) didn't help either. I look forward to a great game from him next week! :oh:

:io:Hopefully we see him take off and run a little more next week, too.

TP's throwing ability is improved but not on the level of the best passers in college football. He threw way over guys' heads more than he hit them in the numbers and in many of these instances the reciever was wide open. I'm quite concerned about that against USC. USC isn't just going to turn guys loose on every passing play. If Pryor overshoots guys as often as he did yesterday we're looking at a 3 interception game. Hopefully it was just first-game jitters.

Pryor is going to have to throw. The O-line proved highly insufficient in run blocking. It seems like on most of the running plays you'd see at least one offensive lineman on his belly before the RB had even crossed the line of scrimmage.

The reason we all talk about TP is because we all know this team will go as far as TP and the O-line will take it. TP looks much improved, he looks good, but he looks at least a year away from kicking it into high gear as a passer.

I think this is a 10-2 Buckeye team. At this point they look like they'll lose 2 of the 3: USC, Penn St., and Bowl game.

+1

People jumped all over the USC poster who said about as much in the game thread but I agree.

I only recall two passes (one to Carter and one to Dane) that would qualify for your overshooting guys often comment and throwing over their heads. He only had 7 incompletions so with those two passes and the two TWash dropped that only leaves 3 other incompletions for the game. He threw one away in vicinity of Dane. Carter caught one out of bounds. I can't remember the last incompletion.

One was a completion to Jake Ballard that he had to jump up way high to get. I was very impressed with Ballard in this game, by the way. But he was absolutely wide open. If he has a good USC linebacker behind him instead of a clueless Navy defense that play can turn out very different.

There's another completion that stands out in my mind but for the life of me I can't remeber the reciever.

When the INT occured I was not at all surprised because Pryor had been throwing high often in the game.
