QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

I don't know if the hurdle comparisons are all that relavant to 40 times and football speed. If I were to compare something it would be:

Brandon Saine HS 100-Meter Dash: 10:38

Fastest player on OSU team <> Saine

Griffin 100-Meter Dash = ?

No disrespect to Pryor, who is amazing given his size, but Griffin might be the fastest CFB player right now.

I think Trindon Holliday has 1 year left at LSU - he ran a 10.00 100-meters at the NCAA outdoor meet this spring.

I was actually surprised Mandel picked Pryor over Griffin, since many in the national media went with the opposite viewpoint after last season (prior to the Spring Game).

I also think Big 12 defenses aid to stat inflation.

Griffin is a speed merchant, but I don't think he's shown the speed of a guy like Jeff Demps.

Jeff Demps is the fastest college football player in the country. Dude ran a 10.01 as a senior in HS. Griffin is a speed demon but not sub 10.25 type of speed.
I would think TP would be somewhere between 10.6 and 11.0.

So if Pryor is 10.6+, where is the disconnect between Pryor being supposedly the fasted on the team and Saine having ran a 10.38 100?

Can Saine not run as fast as he used to?

I wouldn't call TP the fastest player on the team, maybe not even the top 5 fastest guys on the team covering 100 meters. A 40 is a much different race than a 100 sprint.
Saine ran that time as a junior in HS, and has had a plethora of injuries since.

This kind of all gets back to my original point. The most relevant time available to compare for football speed is the 40, not the 100. Just because someone ran a fast 100 (Saine) obviously does not mean they can beat someone in the 40 that supposedly would run a 10.6+ 100 time. Let alone someone that runs a fast 110 hurdle time. Without having a 40 time on Griffin I don't think you can just assume that he is a faster football player than Pryor. Again, I'm not saying he isn't faster, just that I have yet to see anything that convinces me he is.

I don't really care whether you take Griffin or Pryor, it's irrelevant. I just can't get over the incredibly stupid statement that Pryor and Tebow are similar runners. Tim Tebow's only move is "run right into people and knock them down" - although it works really well for him. Pryor occasionally runs around or past people, in addition to knocking them down. A subtlety, I know.

Just as long as he doesn't attempt to jump over 'em I'll be happy with any way TP decides to elude defenders. Through them, around them... fine... not fine with jumping over them.

:oh:
