QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

While I certainly am excited, I wonder if our good friends @ ESPN (darn that sarcasm font) or any college recruitment rankings will place us higher once we get the #1 QB prospect.

I believe Rivals and Scout update their rankings in August after everyone enrolls. OSU will move up to 4th on Rivals team rankings with Pryor's commitment.

Pryor, from what I've seen is a pretty good b-ball player, but not amazing or one and done caliber.

Let's put it this way; there are dozens of 6'6" wing players with 35+ inch verticals. However, how many quarterbacks are there like that? You could count them on one hand.

I know it says he's planning on announcing, but I wonder how. I know before it was going to be ESPNU, so I wonder if they'll cover it again or if it will be a different route.

I don't think it's an accident that..
TP leads his football team to a state championship
TP leads his AA football team to a win.. amongst the BEST of the BEST
TP leads his basketball team to a state championship

He's a difference maker... a Troy Smith-level difference maker...

Daniels will fix the throwing mechanics...

With the teammates already pledged to the pgm... a Heisman is very feasible

I believe those that say he brings an NC or two...

Fellas...let's not put the cart in front of the horse...

Let him actually suit up and play college football before we give him his first heisman.

No difference for UM. They had additional spots, and did not have any other qb options (Daniels went to USF).
PSU had additional spots but few are interested in playing for JoePa (see Pitt recruiting in-state dominance).
Oregon snagged a QB in this class. I'm not familiar with their scholarship totals nor other prospects... but they did not try to make an in-home before NLOID, so I doubt they thought they were a serious contender.
OSU did not have any other legitimate QB prospects, though I suppose that perhaps a plan B guy could've been pursued harder.

That must be why we didn't offer Jonas Gray even though he was essentially begging for a scholarship offer. Or why a JUCO PA RB was lying about having a written scholarship offer and was on his way to visit Penn State. Or why Rotell Jenkins showed for camp and he and his coached have lied about having a Penn State offer from the beginning.

Pitt recruiting in-state dominance? You mean like their legacy OT, or midget Cam Saddler who could not secure a Penn State offer...not even a verbal one? How about Hale, who we told was DE all the way and he choose Pitt over tOSU [from his own mouth] because Pitt told him he was a LB and tOSU said DE/LB. We did fine. If we didn't get outworked for Walker by ND, or tell Kenny Tate he was going to RS regardless of performance and lose him to MD, as well as miss on practically every OT and have Shaw commit to a scumbag this class would be looked at much differently. Joe needs to go, but players do still want to come to Penn State. Look no further than Crawford, Lynn [with his position coach/head recruiter leaving], Pannell, Stank, A.J. Price, etc.

Sorry, back to Terrelle Pryor. I'm absolutely positive he is going to end up at tOSU, and I am OK with that. We have had more good fortune with recruiting highly ranked QBs than we deserve and I look forward to what Pennsylvania's Pat Devlin can do under center in '08. It's funny though, some posters [Bucknuts, Hineygate, etc.] seem to think Terrelle Pryor is going to come in and beat out Boeckman and win a NC as a freshman. He needs some refining as a passer.

If I can add that it is a relief to have TP announce that his announcement is imminent. I have no problem with anyone making predictions no matter how unlikely their probability is. One would be naive to say that there is no probability of him leading the Bucks with a Heisman or a NC as a freshman. It may be a small probability but still a real probability.

People who try to say that here are put in their place pretty quickly.. Pryor is a fantastic athlete, but we have two QBs in our depth chart who are better at the position. Pryor will get his touches, but he's not going to be #1 on the depth chart as a freshman.

I hate when I see people comparing Pryor to Troy Smith (not really talking about anyone in particular, I hear it around Columbus a lot). I understand why, but it's an unfair comparison at this point. Pryor has that kind of potential, but let's see him suit up and play in S&G before crowning him the next Heisman winner! Didn't we have a vote on the site about the best OSU QB, and didn't Troy Smith win? We can't expect him to be THAT good. Haha

Anyways, good to see that his decision is coming up soon. I'd obviously like to see him in S&G, but if we don't get him I'm more than confident in our current mobile QB.

Why does everyone seem so certain he is coming to play for The Ohio State. I like the optimism but we should let it play out first. We have said many times that we all have not a clue what is going on in an 18 yr olds head. Especially an 18 yr old who is in his situation.

Close relationships with current commits, surrounding talent at tOSU, not too far from home, coaching, chance to win a NC every year, opportunity to develop into an NFL QB, etc.........

Just read back through the thread. There is more than enough info to determine where he wants to go. Heck, he even admitted that he was set to sign with tOSU the night before NLOID, but his dad convinced him to give PSU a chance by visiting them.

He has time to go with a teammate to watch a tOSU basketball game, but not to go visit PSU for his official. Says he is now ready to make a decision. Any questions?
