An update on the status of Terrelle Pryor, a prized quarterback recruit from Jeannette, Pa., who is considering Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and Oregon. The deadline for signing a national letter of intent is April 1. ? Days since signing day: Six
? Developments: Bill Conley, a national recruiting analyst for ESPN.com, was a long-time recruiting coordinator for Ohio State. He said, "I think every day that Terrelle Pryor doesn't commit to Ohio State is not good. Because when you're the front-runner as Ohio State apparently was and the kid doesn't sign on signing day, other influences start coming in and you don't know what's going to happen. But I always used this tactic with kids who had second thoughts: 'Go back and remember why you picked Ohio State in the first place.' Usually they end up back with you. The kids mature enough to come to that conclusion are the ones you want."

MONDAY MADDEN: Wake me up when Pryor makes up his mind

As you read this, Jeannette High School mega-quarterback Terrelle Pryor may have picked a college. Or not. Who cares?

College recruiting is a sleazy, demeaning exercise. Teenage kids are treated like commodities, entering a world where ? once they reach an initial decision verbally ? they are endlessly badgered by adults to renege. Then, as they finally sign on the dotted line, the very best have their egos blown out of proportion even further by appearing on ESPN.

In Pryor?s case, he didn?t even have to sign to appear on ESPN. Pryor held a press conference to announce he hadn?t decided.

Pryor leaning on pro's wisdom

Steelers? Charlie Batch is a mentor for No. 1 QB recruit Terrelle Pryor

By Brian Eller and Josh Langenbacher
Collegian Staff Writer

JEANNETTE -- Terrelle Pryor showed up a few summers ago on basketball courts in Homestead, a small town where the rims are rustier than the train tracks that sit near the Monongahela River.
At the time he was one of 300 players who were part of Project C.H.U.C.K., a program run by Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Charlie Batch designed to uplift community children.
Since, Pryor's blossomed into the top recruit in the country, and Batch has been there every step along the way of a heated recruiting battle.
With Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State all trying to ensure the dual-threat quarterback lands on their campus this fall, Batch has stepped in to help settle the chaos that comes along with college recruiting.
"Charlie coming into the picture has added normalcy for Terrelle," Jeannette coach Ray Reitz said.
Batch's role has been to question the schools on their development of Pryor and elicit other information to lay out the pros and cons of each situation.

ESPN ANALYST: 'Every day that Terrelle Pryor doesn't commit to Ohio State is not good'

February 12, 2008
FREE PRESS STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES
Michigan has signed 24 recruits, with a one spot for star prep quarterback Terrelle Pryor, who's yet to say where he wants to play in the fall.
Pryor is continuing to play basketball and has not visited Penn State or Oregon yet.

Pryor, the only QB in Pennsylvania history to rush for 4,000 yards and throw for 4,000 in his career, recently narrowed his choices to Oregon, Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State, with the Buckeyes and Wolverines apparently his top two choices. Ohio State looked to be the favorite.

Pryor said he plans to visit the Ducks.

Will Terrelle Pryor visit Penn State? No one knows

By JOSEPH SANTOLIQUITO
For the Daily News
It's uncertain whether Terrelle Pryor, the nation's No. 1 football recruit, will visit Penn State this weekend, according to Jeannette High football coach Ray Reitz. What is certain is that Oregon head coach Mike Bellotti and Penn State defensive coordinator Tom Bradley keep calling. "Nothing really has changed," Reitz said yesterday.
"The calls have died down a little, though we still get calls from reporters and recruiting Web sites. I spoke to coach Bellotti today and they're trying to work something out and get him to come and make a visit. But it's still unknown whether Terrelle will visit Penn State this weekend. I do know his basketball team is in the playoffs and they're playing [tonight].
"Terrelle is stuck in a tough spot right now. He has a commitment to the basketball team and, more so, his friends and teammates. He doesn't want to do anything to take away from what they're doing. He's being asked to visit these schools, but only two coaches have been calling right now, that's Bellotti and Bradley."
The 6-6, 225-pound senior quarterback opted to push his decision back last Wednesday, the first day of the official signing period. He said he wanted to see Penn State and Oregon, which joined the fray with Michigan and Ohio State, which was thought to be the favorite.

Hall's strong start sends Jeannette past Center

By Paul Schofield
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Thursday, February 14, 2008

Jeannette basketball coach Jim Nesser was worried about his team's first-round playoff game. He always worries. Good thing Jordan Hall showed up. The junior guard kick-started the Jeannette offense and defense, and he relaxed his coach by leading the No. 2-seeded Jayhawks to a 65-42 victory against Center in a WPIAL Class AA game at Baldwin.
Hall, who scored nine of his 15 points in the opening quarter, had four steals and 10 assists to lead Jeannette into a quarterfinal-round game against South Fayette on Saturday at a time and site to be determined.
The recipient of many of Hall's passes was Moziah Harris, who led Jeannette with 20 points. Terrelle Pryor had 16 points and 15 rebounds, and Shaw Sunder had nine second-half points.

I know this isn't news, but rather an important observation brought out to me via PM. It would be in his absolute best interest to be firmly committed to a school--not necessarily OSU, but where ever he chooses to go--before he blows a knee out on the basketball court. How many big schools will still be knocking at his door should the unfortunate happen? I would like to think they'd honor his commitment if he got hurt after he committed, but there's always the danger the school he eventually wants--again, where ever that is--may not continue to pursue him should he get hurt.

Inside Dish: Bucks still have inside track on Pryor

Posted: February 17, 2008

Here's why Terrelle Pryor, the nation's No. 1 recruit, will eventually sign with Ohio State: Even though his father wants him to play at Penn State, the coaching situation in Happy Valley is tenuous. Joe Paterno may not coach past the 2008 season, and there's no guarantee a member of his current staff will take over. For the first time in three decades, Paterno isn't the most powerful man on campus. President Graham Spanier ultimately will decide Paterno's fate and clearly has control of the process. . . .

Surprise: Pryor a force in overtime win

Surprise: Pryor a force in overtime win
Class AA Boys: Jeannette 64, South Fayette 54
Sunday, February 17, 2008
By Mike White, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Terrelle Pryor jawed with the South Fayette student section a few times in yesterday's contest. Two South Fayette students were escorted by police out of the gymnasium during the WPIAL Class AA playoff game.

After the contest, Pryor had to be held back from a confrontation with the students.

"People kept saying things," Pryor said. "I try not to listen to it, but it makes you mad."

Jeannette outlasts South Fayette

BALDWIN - South Fayette matched Jeannette's energy. The Lions matched the Jayhawks' skill level. In terms of defensive intensity, the two WPIAL Class AA boys basketball powers were equals.

One area where Jeannette held a distinct advantage was athleticism, namely in the form of heralded senior Terrelle Pryor. And when Jeannette needed Pryor most, the nation's top football recruit delivered.

Pryor scored seven of his game-high 24 points in overtime as he led the Jayhawks past South Fayette, 64-54, Saturday in a tightly contested quarterfinal contest at Baldwin High School.

"They're not the toughest team to defend Xs and Os wise," South Fayette coach Rich Bonnaure said. "It's just the athleticism. We played hard but they played just as hard. (Pryor) is a big factor for them."

Pryor: Needs to relax, ignore taunting because it's only going to get worse

His talents command that type of attention, whether he wants it or not. His talents also command unwanted attention, from hangers-on to a constant stream of autograph seekers.

Judging from Pryor's actions, the biggest pain comes on the basketball court, where the opposition's fan base harasses Pryor nonstop.

Rivals (free)

2/18

By Farrell...focused on basketball and thus hasn't had a chance to schedule anything with PSU and maintains that he would like to check out Oregon. Addresses the bashing he took from Mark May and admits he was set to sign with OSU on the 6th until he and his father agreed to continue looking.

So not worried about Pryor...

michigandaily: TP does not enjoy being TP

Terrelle Pryor does not enjoy being Terrelle Pryor

By H. Jose Bosch, written on Feb. 18, 2008

I found this gem of a story on Awesome Time via Deadspin. Apparently Terrelle Pryor can?t handle the pressure of being the country?s world?s greatest quarterback prospect.

During a high school basketball game Friday night, Pryor was taunted all game long by the students of South Fayette High School. One student even dressed in a red sweater vest, saying he would be Pryor?s ?daddy? for the next four years.
