QB/WR Terrelle Pryor ('10 Rose, '11 Sugar MVP)

Center Daily (State College) PA AA All-State

Pryor _ who else _ leads Pa. AA All-State

By PHILIP CMOR

- For The Associated Press

Jeannette coach Ray Reitz remembers first setting eyes on Terrelle Pryor when his future quarterback was playing midget football.

"He was so much bigger than everyone else," Reitz said. "We thought the other kids would catch up to him."

They never did. Nor did any other player at any school in Pennsylvania.
Already a two-time all-state selection heading into his senior year, the 6-foot-6, 225-pound Pryor further distanced himself from all others while completing his career as The Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AA player of the year.
It's all but certain that if there was an overall player of the year in the state, Pryor would have won that, too - despite playing two classes below Class AAAA.

Pryor amassed 3,778 yards in total offense - remarkably, split almost equally between running (1,899 yards) and passing (1,889 yards) - in leading the Jayhawks from the Pittsburgh area to a PIAA championship and a 16-0 season.

Pryor also accounted for a remarkable 58 touchdowns, scoring 35 times and throwing for 23. He scored a touchdown nearly once every four times he touched the ball, the equivalent of a baseball player homering once every four at-bats for an entire season.
Frequently, Pryor didn't play in the second half: Jeannette won all but four of its games by 36 points or more and set a new state record by scoring 860 points. The Jayhawks averaged nearly 54 points per game, so nearly all of their games were played with the mercy rule in effect during the second half.

Pryor wasn't the only Jayhawk on the all-state team. Teammates Jordan Hall, Mike Matt and Jason Marquis joined their quarterback on the first team, while Martel Walker made the second team.

That's not all: Reitz, who kept a team that featured what might be the nation's most recruited high school player grounded and focused throughout the long season, is the AA coach of the year.

I was just sitting here watching ESPN 2. They are doing another piece on Rich Rod going to Michigan, bla bla. Then they start talking about how Rich Rod got on the phone with Pryor and started telling him how he could be the starter b/c they have no QB to run the spread. All of that is par for the course, not big deal. As they are saying this, there is a ticker at the bottom of the screen that reads, "Pryor decommits from WVU- Now considering Ohio State, Michigan, and Florida."

Do they ever get it right?

i thought ramrod got hired during the quiet period, therefore, he couldn't have called pryor at all. was this simply espn speculation?

The news he broke to Pryor actually occured right before the dead period. However, one call per week is allowed during that time period.

Just curious but would that call count against WVU or Michigan? I don't think Rodriguez was officially the Michigan head coach at that time. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Pryor named state's Class AA player of year

By The Tribune-Review
Tuesday, December 25, 2007

Almost every day, Jeannette's Terrelle Pryor puts even more distance between himself and almost every other athlete in the state. Three days after setting a school record in basketball with 1,750 points, Pryor was named Monday The Associated Press Pennsylvania Class AA football player of the year. Pryor, a three-time all-state selection, already has to move aside Jeannette's state championship trophy -- won Dec. 15 -- to make room for even more hardward on his crowded shelf.
Jeannette coach Ray Reitz, who was named the AP's coach of the year in AA, remembers first setting eyes on Pryor, 6-foot-5 1/2, 220 pounds, when his future quarterback was playing midget football.

Don't know if this has been posted before, and tried to look back for it around the time it was taken, but this picture was taken at a Jeannette function honoring their football team from last season and Terrelle as player of the week for that week.

Players wearing team gear generally means next to nothing in terms of predicting recruitment. They get free T-Shirts and other stuff like that all the time when they're at football camps, and quite frankly, if they have a shirt, they're going to wear it, regardless of what logo is on it. I have a friend who wears Akron and Toledo football stuff all the time, but there's a great chance that he plays at neither school.

I know David Lighty was seen wearing Michigan jerseys before he committed to Ohio State.

Never said it meant he was gonna come here. Like I said, the picture was from last season.

Star quarterback recruit Pryor already has U-M tie
December 26, 2007

By MARK SNYDER

FREE PRESS SPORTS WRITER

Terrelle Pryor, the super quarterback recruit from Jeanette, Pa., whom new coach Rich Rodriguez called immediately after being hired, already has a Michigan connection. His cousin by marriage, Toney Clemons, is a freshman wide out for the Wolverines.

?We talk on and off every week since I came up here in the fall,? said Clemons, from New Kensington, Pa. ?It?s been good and positive. He?s excited about the change and I?m excited about the change. He always liked us but before the (new) coaches came in, he couldn?t play that offense. Now that we have a different coach that?s more his style, he has a better feedback about it.?

The lips remained sealed, though, as Clemons said everyone had to wait until the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan..5 at San Antonio to find out Pryor?s decision. Pryor, considered in the mold of mobile quarterbacks like West Virginia?s Pat White, has listed his other finalists as Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State and Florida.
