QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

The buzz on Braxton Miller
By Kyle Nagel | Tuesday, June 1, 2010

Braxton Miller, the Wayne High School junior quarterback desired by most of the country?s football powers, will announce his college decision at a news conference on Thursday, June 3.

Dayton Daily News reporter Doug Harris spent much of the day tracking down information on Miller and talking with those close to him and who have tracked him to paint a picture of the senior-to-be ranked among the best - if not the very best - recruits in the country by most services.

Miller told Harris that making up his mind is a ?big relief. It?s been a lot of calls. People just want to talk. They want an update.?

With his choices narrowed to Ohio State and Florida (and most believing he?ll choose Ohio State), many believe the Buckeyes get a boost because Florida has received a commitment from Jeff Driskel.

Would Florida having signed the No. 1 Rivals.com QB in his class discourage him from going there?

?Not at all,? he said.

What others had to say about Miller:

?He?s not arrogant. He?s modest. He really didn?t want to do the press conference, he?s not a big limelight guy. He just wants to get better. That?s what I like about him the most.? ? Wayne football coach Jay Minton.

?He?s so competitive. His competitive nature is intriguing. To watch him grow the last three years ? I?m glad kids can?t leave high school early. To watch him grow and mature has been fascinating.? ? Minton

Minton almost gave it away: ?Wherever your kids go, you want to make sure they?re playing for great coach. Tress just does it right. We?re excited about ? I?d better be careful. I?m not very smart, am I??

?I?m just real impressed with him over the way he?s handled all this. A lot of kids would be arrogant. A lot of kids would think they?re better than anybody else. And it would distract them. He does such a great job with it.? ? Minton

During the interview he also said that he would, upon commitment, immediately begin recruiting his butt off for his chosen school.

He said that in direct response as to whether he would try to recruit DePriest, with whom he said he has had a close relationship for a "long time".

("long time" is in quotation marks not because he actually used that phrase (I'm too old to even try to use a high-schooler's terminology) but because a "long time" to him is something that I cannot personally call a "long time" without the quotation marks)

Luckily for OSU, Braxton has been recruiting for them for some time. He and Hayes have really been going after it with other recruits and once it's "official" I expect it only to heat up even more led by those two on the recruiting trails.

I really like that where we are this recruiting season, and adding Braxton is only going to make things better, much better at that. We will now have another high profile recruit who believe it or not, will have an impact on where kids decide to play. We have gotten a commitment from Cash, who recruits for us "non-stop", (See TE Jeff H), and now I'm sure our stock will improve with offensive recruits left on the board.
I'm very excited for the impending commitment from Braxton and cannot wait to see how he helps shape this class. For those of you who haven't seen this kid, here's some footage. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQ11_wX6Jx8]YouTube - Braxton Miller JR Highlights, Huber Heights Wayne (OH)[/ame]

There is essentially zero suspense here. He's announcing now because the school that's been after him the longest put the screws to him.

Wayne QB's recruitment has been busier than most
Braxton Miller has been one of the area?s most highly sought players in recent memory.

HUBER HEIGHTS ? Jay Minton has coached several prized college football prospects over the years, but he?s never had a player more hotly pursued than his quarterback at Wayne High School, junior Braxton Miller.

?Thinking back, I?ve been fortunate to be around some really, really exciting young men. Stevie and Greg Bellasari?s recruiting was pretty crazy (at Boca Raton High School in Florida), and Marcus Freeman?s up here was pretty interesting, but nothing like this,? Minton said.

?Braxton?s has kind of been over the top with the number of schools that have contacted us and shown interest in him.?

Miller has narrowed his choices to Ohio State and Florida and has been saying for weeks the Buckeyes are his clear leader.

He wouldn?t tip his hand during a brief interview Tuesday, but when asked about OSU, he replied: ?They?re like home. That?s basically it. It feels like home.?

Wayne QB's recruitment has been busier than most

Kevin Miller, the player’s father, wouldn’t spoil the announcement. “We’ll let everything come out Thursday,” he said.

According to Long, though, Miller’s commitment to OSU is “a done deal.”

Dave Biddle, who covers OSU for Bucknuts.com, said: “He’s a Buckeye all the way. I had a chance to talk to him and his dad on (May 23) and ... there was no doubt in his mind.”

Minton, though, cautioned OSU fans from celebrating too early.

“Braxton could flip. ... There’s always that possibility of him coming in that Thursday morning and saying I want to go to Florida instead,” Minton said.

being absolutely sold on what Jim Tressel is about as a person and a football coach is not something that you change your mind about, especially not last minute

still, I hope he builds up plenty of hype for his decision tomorrow, he deserves it

I am surprised Coach Minton would mention the flip. I think he is saying this because he realized he said too much accidentally. People want the hype to build so Braxton can break it all himself.
