Unfortunately, that is what we (the OSU fanatics) do. We expect a BCS championship WIN each year, and then a #1 recruiting class year in and year out. And call for the head of the coach who doesn't provide same. Yeah, we're spoiled. Not just by success, but by the expectations of success. If we don't have the leader recruiting, then we get upset. If the Ohio-star feels like another school is best for him/her, then we get upset (not in print, else the mods would
- as they should). Using Tress as an example, he's got a great winning percentage, has Michigan as his personal whipping boy, AND (best of all) the kids he recruits are good kids and graduate. More are staying in for the full 4-5 years, and the GPA is up. Can't ask for more, but we do. And if the score isn't high enough we complain (shoulda scored 5 more TDs or somesuch), although a win is a win in the won/loss column. Life has a way of working itself out. Many of the high profile kids that we lost, seem to be prima donnas that are 'high maintenance', and don't fit well with the program Tress is running.
We'll have a top ten recruiting class this year, or if not, then somewhere I read that the 'effectiveness' of the recruiting class causes them to be reranked, and OSU does quite well in the starts/star power of the classes that come here.
Finally, our 'mediocre' coaches (no one wants to hire them away from us) seem to turn 2* and 3* players into first round NFL picks. That says alot for the coaching ability to plug kids into the system and win. I'd rather that than take a full 25 5*s and see them all become mediocre (ND comes to mind) and not win. Sorry for the rant, y'all, it just bubbled up (and out).
