QB/WR Braxton Miller (B1G POY, National Champion, OSU HOF)

Braxton Miller is Fully a Wide Receiver as he Prepares to Workout at the NFL Combine

It could have all been over for Braxton Miller. The quarterback attempted a routine throw in fall camp heading into what he expected to be his final year at Ohio State when he felt it all go wrong and his future slip from his grasp.

Over a year later, Miller stood at the podium at the NFL Combine facing the media not as the signal caller he once dreamt but as a wide receiver, the position he changed to after his second shoulder surgery in under a year.

“It wasn’t forced,” he corrected one reporter. “I love it. I’m just thankful to play football again. Just out here playing what I love to do and leaving everything in God’s hands and that’s what I’ve been doing. Just working, perfecting my craft.”

Despite working for his entire life to perfect his skills as a thrower, Miller adapted quickly to his new role after he realized his future – especially after two shoulder surgeries – was dependent on another position.

“I’ve been a receiver since the day I switched,” he said. “That was before camp. So it was like July. So I’ve been a receiver since then.”

Miller spent his fifth year in Columbus working as a wide receiver and catching passes from Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett. After winning the Silver Football for the Big Ten’s best player in back-to-back years as a quarterback, Miller recorded 26 receptions for 341 yards and three touchdowns in his one year at wideout.

“The opportunities that I had I was going to make the best of them,” Miller said of his final year with the Scarlet and Gray. “So I can control what I can control and that’s what I did throughout the whole season. I’m just blessed to play the game again and be a top at the position that I did a year ago.”
