I've been largely pro-Tate, but if there's no noise about UCLA, which doesn't seem to have much at QB and where he'd seem to be a good system fit, looking at him, I wonder if Day's told Kelly some things that would discourage him from going after Tate. Bummer if that's the case.

I don’t think there’s been any legitimate noise anywhere, just speculation.

It's a database of players who other coaches have permission to contact. I assume it probably has contact information in it but I think it mostly serves as a way to confirm that you can talk to this person.

I believe you can limit who can talk to you and also if you are on it the school you are at can cut your scholarship at the end of the academic quarter. Also you can withdraw from it but your original school is not required to take you back.

With Jalen Hurts almost assuredly going to Miami, I think that eliminates one likely destination. I can't see Tate wanting to play behind Hurts for 1 season. I think right now, WVU and Auburn are far ahead.

Like others have mentioned, I'd like to see UCLA get involved. If he's willing to wait 1 season, I think Miami and FSU would both be good landing spots.

Haven't been following the Hurts story other than hearing that he was in the portal. So, DaU is where he's heading? Interesting.

It sounds to me as if Tate's going to HAVE to wait out a year, albeit he can file for a waiver, speculation is that it won't be granted. So if he does fly to 'Da U', then he'd have to sit out the single year behind Hurts anyway, unless he really does graduate in the spring. Then he could start somewhere right away. Very sorry to see it play out this way. Thought to the 'transfer portal' after his saying he was All - Buckeye, kinda hurt his credibility in my eyes. Someone said he was 'testing the waters', or seeing who was interested, and that he didn't HAVE to transfer. Can anyone clear the fog away from my eyes? Is this just seeing if anyone wants to ask him to dance, or is it kinda mean there is no turning back? Also, can/will tOSU pull his schollie ? Finally, does anyone with inside info know/opine that Day sat him down and told him we are/are not going to run what you are good at doing, so you might want to look elsewhere?

Interesting that Austin Kendall, the presumed Oklahoma QB next year, is also in the transfer portal. It's not known when he entered, only that he is in fact listed in portal. It could've been done while Fields was still essentially a FA. Otherwise it's odd, as the QB job should be his next season as a RS Junior.

To add to this, Riley allegedly passed on Fields as to send a signal he will not chase transfer QB's. That may have been important to this years #1 rated pro-style QB Spencer Ratler who may have had a poor reaction to a Fields recruitment.

Interesting times for college QB's. It's like musical chairs....

My guess he put his name in the portal so that the coaching staff knows that he isn't going to be the backup if he doesn't win the job. I just think he wants a level playing field to win the starting job.

I have to think Urban talked about QB depth and how you need guys ready like in 2014. You have to expect Day to carry on that. By entering the portal Tate is saying don't count on me to be that depth. Maybe he saw something with Haskins and Burrow with the staff favoring Haskins prematurely.

Does the transfer portal tell who has contacted players?
