QB Quinn Ewers (transfer to Texas)

I didn't see anything, but here's a nice gem from BWI:

Facts are, when has O$U had a successful pro style QB, 2002?

Seems like they forgot about a guy who set every B1G passing record about 2 years ago...

No... 2 years ago... 2018... that was Dwayne Haskins. Steven A. Smith said he was a running quarterback.

My eyes told me otherwise, but Mr. Smith is a professional and I'm sure I can take his word for it.

(And based off of the criteria that Smith seemed to be using, I'm sure he would agree that Ewers is a pro style QB, not that "pro style" really means what it used to.)

There's not one dual threat prospect on the post fields roster. All four guys are pro style. CJ happens to have solid quickness too, but he is absolutely not a running qb or anything close to a 50/50 split. He's a pro style prospect that is athletic.

It seems like the QB position is veering in the direction of athletic pro style QBs. Dual threat QBs are seeing that their shelf life is severely limited by relying on their legs a lot when they get to college, and even more so when they get to the NFL. Unless you're a Cam Newton sized QB(and even he is trying to change his game to remaining in the pocket more) than after a year of running in the NFL will have you wanting to wanting to work on footwork in the pocket.
Quinn is everything that Day wants in a QB. From watching his progressions, to throwing WRs open, moving the pocket and keeping a defense honest with his legs, Ewers has the talent and the weapons to absolutely excel(and having a, elite OL is even better)

So refreshing to see that pocket presence....

Highlights of No. 37 Southlake Carroll's 30-26 win over No. 36 Arlington Martin in the third round of the Texas 6A Division 1 playoffs. Five-star quarterback Quinn Ewers threw for 251 yards and three touchdowns in his first game since Oct. 30.

Ewers returns to help Southlake Carroll survive against Arlington Martin in regional

Southlake Carroll quarterback Quinn Ewers hadn’t played a football game since Oct. 30 with an undisclosed injury.

But with the biggest game of the season Thursday night, Ewers came to play.

After a little rust, the 5-star Ohio State commit threw for three touchdowns and Carroll managed to hold off Arlington Martin, 30-26, in an action-packed, penalty-plagued Class 6A Division 1 slug fest on Christmas Eve at Globe Life Park.

“What a game,” said Ewers, who completed 20 of 36 passes for 250 yards. “It feels amazing to be back out here with my guys. Being on the sideline is just horrible and I hate that feeling. You feel useless at some point, but it feels so great to be back out here.”

Carroll (10-1), ranked No. 19 in 6A D1 state rankings, will face Saturday’s winner between No. 23 Euless Trinity (10-1) and No. 4 Allen (10-0) in the quarterfinal round. Trinity and Allen play at 7:30 p.m. at GLP.

I can’t think of any H.S. QB in the 2000’s better than this kid. Look out Archie, I see 2 Heisman’s here.....

Closest is Lawrence and I think Ewers could be better at this point. Dude is incredible, I see him competing for a starting job from day 1 even with our stacked QB room, he's that good. Might be the best HS QB prospect I've ever seen on film. Man did we hit a home run on this one.

I'm in the minority here but watching his film vs the latest team I come away with... meh.

Not a great completion percentage and not great zip on the ball... just me but I'm not wow'd like burrows HS film.

But.... spoiler alert I'm not a scout of any kind.

He seems to have good touch on the ball but he doesn't have the laser throws we're use to.

I really like McCord and Stroud to start for the next 4 years.

I think it's super misleading watching these highlights, but I can say as someone who has worked as a scout and for scouting services....

* Elite level footwork for his age, looks extremely comfortable and natural in the pocket, stays balanced consistently, looks the part
* Throws one of the most catchable balls you'll see in high school, makes it easy for his WR's and does this consistently
* Has one of the best deep ball's you will ever see scouting HS QB's. Fantastic deep ball accuracy and his launch angle is something you don't even see top level college QB's do. It makes it so rare to see DB's intercept or even get a hand on his deep balls. It drops in and when combined with his accuracy his deep ball already would be one of the dangerous traits in college football.
* Knows when to zip it and when not to - the arm strength question I'll also note below

Junior with loads of tape/experience, great technique and a natural athlete, etc.

This kid is going to put on weight, he has strong arm strength already but when you project a kid to college football you know certain things are going to improve naturally, like strength. When you have the fundamentals he already has, you can project out he'll have everything he needs in that category to do everything he wants to do. Will he be a guy like, say even Baker Mayfield, who can throw 70 yards? I have no idea. I also know that need may come up once in a career and I'm not going to sweat it.

Plays great comp with a very advanced system for HS, is able to progress through his reads, stays comfortable in the pocket, etc. etc.

From an on-field perspective, there is nothing this kid can't do. He has skills that already would be upper echelon in college today. He is going to continue and develop and that's why everyone is watering at the mouth thinking of him at 6'4/215.
