Then you do agree with me. Every year in the NFL draft qbs get picked in the first round that don't work out. In college you recruit 16-18 year Olds. Sometimes things don't workout.

I think Day does a great job at developing qbs, and McCord just didn't pan out as his guy. This stuff happens.

Kyle was a third year guy that was surrounded by NFL talent, he got two years playing by CJ Stroud and he had Ryan Day to develop him. Odds of him taking a Joe Burrow step year 2 aren’t high. I did not like how he approached THE game and his tik tok dance. He did t improve throughout the season and I never saw the fire you look for in a leader. I also don’t think he had good followership from the team. We’ll see how today goes if other players or recruits react but I think based on how he reacted to Days honest comments this was a good outcome for the program.

He did get better through out the year. That was from throwing the ball behind receivers on slant routes where they had to turn their upper bodies to catch the balls. In fact, if had had thrown the first interception in the Michigan game like that, it wouldn't have been intercepted. So he improved to the detriment of The Game. He was not reading the defense correctly. There were many times he did not see the play developing and making the safer check down throw when guys were open down field. You saw the frustration in the receivers knowing that they were open and not getting the ball.

You are right. Like I always said. He throws a beautiful ball. Good, strong arm. But he just has not developed in 2 areas: 1) reading the defense and 2) having the confidence to throw guys open before their cuts. We were spoiled the previous 5 years with Haskins, Fields, and Stroud.

Kyle would have been a really nice backup QB for a big time program like OSU but he probably wants to start. So I suspect he'll get a shot at Rutgers, Pitt, BC, etc.

Not to reopen the wound but if our line kept a clean pocket on that final drive in THE game we are in a different discussion. Being and remaining an elite program is unbelievably hard and it comes down to inches, milliseconds, players making huge plays when it counts and luck (looking at you Bama with Auburn peeing down their legs). This sport has changed guys. Good or bad (not sure which yet but I personally don't like the direction) this is what the sport has become. They’re no longer kids or amateurs, they’re free agents in an unregulated market.

I hope our fan base treats Kyle with respect. No question the guy played hard and from everything I know stayed clean and was a good rep for the university. He just didn’t prove he’s the DUDE to make the difference returning this program to elite. The bar for QB play at OSU has risen to a high level and I’m good with that. We have 340ish days to get the next guy and his backup ready. Let’s get it done.

I agree. However, I would prefer a more mobile QB, because that is what has historically run Day's offense the best.

My gut tells me Kienholz who is going into his second season, is the guy to beat next year. From what I hear, there are positive feelings about him in the Woody

I think McCord is a very good QB. I thought however, he was inconsistent, I wish he was more emotional, and after 3 years one would see more progress, especially after a full season as starter in his reads. He also seemed to sink under pressure at times. I think he improved, but I wonder if there is a ceiling with him.

I don't think Day told him you suck get out, but it was probably made known that the QB competition was being opened back up.

McCord would have obviously started if they made the playoff.

Best of luck Kyle.

In my eyes, Kyle came in and did everything asked of him and lived up to his potential. Unfortunately he doesn’t have NFL first round potential like Buckeye fans have gotten used to. Tough spot for him because many in the fanbase at large don’t have the ability to realize that ‘not a top 5 or 10 qb’ isn’t the same as ‘omg he sux! Cut him! He’s trash!’

Always a Buckeye in my eyes.

I think the bad reads were the issue. I am not a fan of Zach Smith, but I agreed with his assessment, that McCord was skip reading, and would fast forward through his reads.

Joe Klatt is a former QB, and he is rarely openly critical, but I got the vibe that he didn't like how McCord was with his reads. This started early in the season, and never seemed to go away.
