QB Kirk Herbstreit (Frosted Quips)

He's at it again, attacking fans who are critical of Will Howard. Now, I disagree with those fans, but Herbstreit is doing this not out of any sincerity or attempt to be a real sports journalist. Rather, it's part of his whole unhinged need to attack Ohio State in any way because he thinks it makes him come off as a non-homer.

Also, still complete radio silence regarding the biggest on-field cheating scandal in ncaa history.

Kirk Herbstreit Announced Retirement From ESPN's CFP Rankings Show on Saturday

In what may have flown a bit under the radar during Saturday's battle between the No. 11 Alabama Crimson Tide and No. 15 LSU Tigers, ESPN's Kirk Herbstreit made an unexpected announcement.

The beloved ESPN personality does just about everything under the sun when it comes to college football coverage, but he revealed to play-by-play announcer Chris Fowler that there is a show he'd no longer be a part of.

While teasing ESPN's "College Football Playoff Rankings Show," Fowler expressed that Herbstreit would be joining the crew headlined by Rece Davis. A sentiment that Herbstreit revealed wasn't the case, as he told Fowler that he had "retired" from the show.

“I retired from that," Herbstreit explained. "Yeah...It'll be Boog (Booger McFarland)...Joseph Scott Galloway and Greg (McElroy)..."

In the middle of Herbstreit explaining this, Davis asked if that news required "congratulations or condolences," to which Davis seemed to answer himself, saying, “I think we know the answer.” The two awkwardly chuckled and went back to calling the game......
.
.
.
continued

While it's unclear if this was a decision from ESPN or Herbstreit himself, who caught a ton of flack last season for his stance on Florida State not being a top team without quarterback Jordan Travis, his presence will be missed.

Just sayin': Hyping #5 Free Shoes for the CFPs was against the "ESPN corporate line" of promoting the SEC, i.e. in this case #4 Alabama.

If this thread doesn't come out to the regular alumni thread...come on, guy is chastised for no reason other than trying to be unbiased and yes, he went to far to prove it. But he's a true Buckeye. Don't Pete Rose him.

But on this one, I feel really hard for him. As the owner of a very good boy, I can feel for him even though a Ben had a great life. Losing a man's best friend is very tough. I would lose it if it happened to me, hope Kirk is ok.

There are reasons why this thread is 264 pages long, and those reasons do not include (a) Herbie's excellent play on the gridiron, or (b) Herbie's excellent commentary from the broadcast booth.

Here's a good recap of why Herbie permanently resides in this forum: LINK
