QB Kirk ‘Nightmare On’ Herbstreit (Frosted Quips, Afraid of THE Lunatic Fringe)

Looking at the top 25 polls, I think many of the teams on there are over-rated. But from a conference perspective, I think the B10 would lose playing head to head against all other BCS conferences except maybe the Big East. Regardless, speaking of knee-jerk reactions, I simply don't understand the plethora of OSU fans that "hate" Herbie because he has "sold out". I think that's horseshit...it you don't like him or his statements (like jwins is talking about), that's fine...but to hate him because he isn't pro-Buckeye enough? It makes me laugh.

Totally agree. Herbie is a big supporter of Ohio State and tons of local charity and other events. It cracks me up when people freak out about him not supporting the bucks enough. Look at how he is when gameday is in columbus. He has his kids up there decked out in OSU gear, and really shows support for the university, but also isn't afraid to say when he doesn't like something

...you have a bunch of guys who call Herbie a traitor, and others who call him a homer ...
I don't thnk he's either. Most of what he says along the line of "save the Big Ten's reputation" is pot-stirring to generate more conversation. It works quite well.

Hating Herbie because he doesn't go all Lou Holtz about Ohio State is stupid....but hating him because he sold out for ESPN and is now a talking puppet like Mark May is different and perfectly acceptable.

I think there's way more people who hate him because of the ridiculous hyperbole he is guilty of than there are people who hate him because he isn't pro-Buckeye enough.

He's hated by Gators for '06 and hated by Buckeyes for '07. Guy's got very little left to stand on. I mean, when he is dumped on simply for moving from his house in Ohio, that is pretty much a sign that rationale thought processes are not at work. He is hated on Gator Country by people even though he picked UF #1 this year.

Basically, he is disliked because our wives would leave us for him in a nano-second.

Really, what the hell does it matter? If people want to call him an SEC/ESPN shill, then fine. Some people will whine anytime he says anything even remotely taken as negative toward tOSU.

I have ZERO problem with him trying to appear unbiased on Game Day. He's right, the Big 10 does blow and the SEC does kick ass.

I swear some of you Bucknut$ castoffs need to pop a few Prozac.

He's a Buckeye.

Sorry, this is a bit more widespread than just jumping on the b10 bashing bandwagon.

After Fowler mentions Pryor and red flags:
"Get ready for Maurice Clarett the sequel." -Kirk Herbstreit, espn radio.

Someone want to step up and defend that gem from a few months ago? They got their phone calls, so it was a win-win for the radio station. :smash:

Exactly. I commend him on securing and maintaining a tremendous job and opportunity, and part of that could be being asked to wear lots of contradictory hats for the sake of ratings.

But I'm still going to call a spade a spade.

Sorry, he's guilty of way too much asanine hyperbole these days.
No, we expect him to make intelligent comments. The conference being set back 10 years, going off the deep end when his UM-OSU hype blew up in his face, etc, etc.

BTW, why doesn't he try to sound reasonable or objective when talking about SC?

Frankly I'm pretty tired of this knee-jerk response to Herbie criticism, evaluating stereotypes rather than what he actually says. If it's that simple, why do we not hear the same vitriol towards Robert Smith, who is not afraid to lavish heavy praise or criticism on OSU? When Robert's wrong, he doesn't spend the next year compensating to an extreme like Herbie.

Precisely how I feel about Herbie.
