I don't mind Herbie and his criticism of the Buckeyes, I only wish he was as impartial when it comes to Boise St. Musberger and Herbie need to wipe their chins off when it comes to the Smurf Broncos.

I think that the Boyzee nob jobs are also adding to this too.

Plain and simple I dont see Herbie doing the same things. When he is on the radio doing his show he goes out of his way to never cross the line, even though it is a Columbus Buckeye audience, to never sound like a homer....like he doesnt want anyone to know that he bleeds scarlet and gray.

Herbie just tries to hard to NOT be a homer, like all of us truly are. I like the way Chris Spielman approaches it, he isn`t faking anything. Go Bucks

There's a reason, with all due respect to Chris, that Herbie is on College Game Day and announcing ESPN's marques prime-time game every week... because ESPN knows that Herbie can put away the homer hat if/when he has to (in order to feed the ratings).

What each guy does is his choice. Neither one is less of a Buckeye to me... and the viewing public frankly couldn't care any less.

It's a bit different. Herbie has more responsibility as a national college football personality. His analysis must stay even keel or he loses his cred. Spielman does a game a weekend and does his Buckeye thing the rest of the time. Very different personas, imo. Spielman can afford to let his bias sing / Herbie cannot.

I agree with you guys w/ herbie being on the national stage and needing to remain unbiased. By the way, Herbie has been rating the Buckeyes higher than anyone else on the BCS countdown show. Herbie is not a Buckeye hater AT ALL....he's just a Smurf lover.

Huh... Herbie looked pretty Buckeye last weekend when all four of his boys came on stage, on national television, with Buckeye jerseys on. And he was a starting QB for the Buckeyes. He seems Buckeye to me, he just isn't homer-ish about it (for better or for worse). Just sayin'.

Spielman takes it down a few notches too when he's commentating a game on ESPN... it's like night and day listening to him there versus on The Fan.

I think Herbie says what is written in his script for ESPN's national audience. Pure and simple. If that makes him a sell-out to some, so be it. I don't think that makes him any less of a Buckeye. I don't think ESPN pays him based on how consistent his views are... in fact maybe quite the opposite because controvery and flip-flopping buys viewers.

Apparently after Ohio State’s victory over Iowa last night, Kirk Herbstreit was none too impressed with Terrelle Pryor or the Buckeyes. Now, I have yet to locate the exact statements that have been described as a rant against Pryor as a player and as a leader, but after hearing about the comments, Terrelle Pryor shot back.

On his twitter account @Tpeezy2, Pryor posted the following tweet:

“Heard Kirk Herbstreit was dogging us. He a fake buckeye. Fake as hell.”

Pryor then removed the tweet and replaced it with “Fake Buckeye.”

First let me say that I don’t like “Herbie” at all. In personal settings as well as on TV he’s an arrogant asshole who thinks he’s much more important than he actually is. He also does nothing but spew the typical ESPN bias and act like a hypocrite. But with that being said, I too, have significant issues with Pryor as a player and a leader and with the Buckeyes program. I don’t know yet what Herbie said to set Pryor off, but it may have been warranted.

That's exactly my point... there are no standards. Anybody who expects standards is in for disappointment - especially when it comes to sports journalism. It's entertainment, pure and simple. To expect anything else (like consistency, logic, uniformity, etc.) is kind of, er... homerish?

Herbie is there over Spielman because his commentary is dumb enough for most of the audience to understand.
Spielman actually comments on stuff that is more pertinent to the game. You'd never know he was a buckeye either from the broadcasts if it weren't for the guy he's working the game with constantly bringing it up.

Bingo. I have no problem with an analyst pointing out flaws but in Herbstreit's case, he's glowing about virtually every other team, but mixed with Ohio State. I know, he's trying to be unbiased and not seen as an OSU homer. But he comes off as a big time homer for other teams. (Example: His man crush on Pete Carroll)

In my opinion, Clark Kellogg is the master of the homer situation. He comes off as being very proud to be a Buckeye. At the same time, he can step out and be objective and treat OSU like he does any other team. Herbstreit still has a lot of work to do here.
