I thought for sure that this book would have a global reach. RAN out to my bookstore. Couldn't wait for the emotion-laden, heart rending stories. Sadly, not in my bookstores here overseas. Must be COVID. Who wouldn't want to buy an "auto"biography written by such an objective writer? Who wouldn't want to get up every morning and strap one on just in case he is visiting your town and you can get an authentic autograph.
Can't wait to read the emotional reasons he threw innocent Ohio State players under the bus during tatgate.
If I were in the US, I'd be rushing out to buy one less than the finger I'm showing my computer screen.

In the 247 piece above, Herbstreit claims "I was the typical five-star recruit who was supposed to start for four years..."
- College football didn't have 5 star rankings, or any rigorous recruit rankings, until more than a decade after Herbstreit graduated from high school.
"Here’s a little context of the rankings we so often cite: The internet recruiting industry got its start in 2002 with Rivals and Scout. ESPN first introduced its rankings in 2006, while 247Sports’ first full rankings debuted in 2011. 247Sports also designed the 247Sports Composite, which combines the three major services (Scout merged with 247Sports in 2017) into a single industry consensus." - If such rankings existed, would Herbstreit would qualify for 5 stars?
- Only about 30 recruits get the coveted 5* national ranking ever year (https://www.sbnation.com/college-fo...ecruiting-stars-rankings-high-school-football).
- Herbstreit apparently was was not voted to the Ohio High School Athletic Association AP All-Ohio 1st team (2 quarterbacks) or 2nd team (1 quarterback) in any year that he played. (https://www.ohsaa.org/sports/staterecords/APPolls)
- UPI placed him #95 among the top 100 national recruiting prospects, making him the #9 quarterback nationally, the #5 prospect in Ohio, and the #1 quarterback in Ohio. (https://www.upi.com/Archives/1988/02/11/College-Football-Recruiting/5061571554000/).
- Perhaps I miss something, but it seems that a 4 star rating would be a more appropriate comparison.

Tom Lemming has been publishing his Prep Report list since the late 70s. Maybe Herbstreit was in that in 1988? I don’t know.
I know Lemmings Top 100 was published on ESPN.com back in the mid/late 90s, because I used to read it. I don’t remember him assigning stars or ESPN carrying accompanying grades though.
