QB Kenny "the old righty" Guiton (WR Coach Wisconsin)

Looked sharp on his throws. He seemed poised for the most part but his pocket presence has to improve. That takes more reps. He looked pretty good to me. The great thing is they don't have to change the offense when he comes in.

The more I see of this team, and this is a perfect example, the less impressed I become with the previous staff. I'll stop there but you can pretty much figure out where I'd go if I continued, but I'll get you pointed in the right direction with one word: Nebby.

Congrats to Kenny. Loved watching him take the wheel today.

I have always had a soft spot for Kenny, but I have always believed, and believe even more after today that he could be a starter for a lot of teams. Maybe not at the top tier, but he could be a stud at some of the smaller schools that recruited him (looking at you Houston). I think we are lucky to have this young man as our backup. Pretty nice luxury.

It's also nice to not have Joe Bauserman as the next QB off the bench. I don't feel like the offense would fall apart with Guiton in command. (Of course there'd be a drop off, but it wouldn't be like when Miller came out vs Nebraska last year.)

Ohio State notes: ?Coach' Guiton has impressed Meyer
Published: Thursday, September 06, 2012

The rapid ascension of Kenny Guiton continues.

Granted, the only way Guiton is going to see action for the Ohio State football team this season is in mop-up duty or if starter Braxton Miller goes down with an injury or cramps ? as he did in the Week 1 game against Miami of Ohio.

But there's no doubt Guiton has made significant strides since the days in the spring when Coach Urban Meyer would walk by him and give him pop quizzes on OSU's offense to see if Guiton knew what was going on.

These days, Guiton has a new nickname ? Coach.

"We were talking about the offense and the understanding I have of it," Guiton said of his conversation with Meyer. "One time he walked by and says, ?What's up, Coach Guiton?'

"I looked at him. It was funny."

Guiton said he is a different player than when Meyer first took over. Meyer has said multiple times over the past weeks how far the sophomore from Texas has come and how he now trusts him with his offense.

Guiton's performance against the RedHawks undoubtedly helped the trust factor even more. In relief of a cramping Miller, Guiton ran for 14 yards and completed 5 of 9 passes for 37 yards.

"It's getting funner and funner every day," he said.

I'd love for Guiton to get playing time when we're up by a couple of touchdowns. So it's not necessarily like mop up duty, but give him real pressure to score other than wanting to because he won't have any other time to.

Love this young man and all he offers to OSU. In my opinion he is not just a backup, but 1B. If it comes down to it, I do not think he is just a serviceable backup. I believe Braxton Miller has earned the job, but if a worse case scenario were to happen, I do not think the offense would fall apart.

The way the option game was tearing up Nebraska last year, you have to think that if Kenny came in, that would have been a W.

I never understood why you would have a back up QB where you have to significantly change the offense when they come in the game. Even if Bauserman was the better "QB", Kenny would have been a better replacement just so you wouldn't have to change your offensive strategy on the fly.

Yeah that's something to be wondered about during that game. That was one of the more frustrating losses.

Anyway, Guiton is one of the most important guys on the team IMO. Obviously Miller is the rising star in CFB and has incredible potential, but a guy like Guiton gives the coaches and fans some comfort knowing that if Miller gets dinged like against Nebraska last year or if his helmet comes off at a crucial time, you still have a good backup who can run the same offense and produce results.

Sure he isn't an elite level playmaker, but you can have confidence in the guy to score or at least manage the game and what more can be asked of the back up? He needs some more playing time but he can be a great asset in the future.
