QB Justin Zwick (B1G Champion, National Champion)

I have no idea how serious the injury is but would a medical redshirt this year be the worst thing for Justin? Just thinking out loud I guess. I'd love to see him get a chance to go out on top.

I didn't even think about that. That could be a blessing in disguise and might help to launch his NFL career as a draft pick instead of being a free agent. I get the feeling it may not be that serious though.

Justin is one Buckeye who has done everything asked of him and more. Let's hope for a quick return to the field. :oh:
Very true. I'd love to see us be in a position to play JZ without ever getting into that "one snap away" scenario. I don't think he's really been put in a position to show his full potential - not that any player is owed an "ideal" opportunity by any means; the game doesn't work that way. Still, I want to see what he can do behind a cohesive offensive line and without a pulled hamstring... and would like NFL scouts to see as well.

And speaking of the way he handled that pulled hamstring... how can anyone not be a JZ fan?

Anyway... here's to healing quickly...

Amen to that!!

JZ epitomizes what being a member of a football team is all about. When playing the ultimate team sport, one should put the needs of the team ahead of personal glory. JZ has done that and has definitely shown what being a Buckeye means. Coming in as the most heralded QB prospect since Art Schlichter, (does anyone remember the nickname "Justin Time"), the obvious heir apparent to Krenzel, only to be beat out of the position and not pout, sulk, look to transfer where the level of competition may have been less than at OSU and satisfy his personal goals, but instead accept his role....yeah that is a true Buckeye and someone I would want on my team!

Here's to a speedy recovery.

Battle-tested Zwick leads competition for Buckeyes' No. 2 spot

By Doug Harris
Staff Writer

Friday, August 25, 2006
COLUMBUS — Ohio State hasn't had to deal with a quarterback controversy as it did at the beginning of last season, but there still is some suspense unfolding at the position.
Senior Justin Zwick, who has made nine career starts, appears to be the front-runner for the No. 2 job, but he's being pushed by sophomore Todd Boeckman and redshirt freshman Robbie Schoenhoft.
<!--endtext--><!--endclickprintinclude--><!--startclickprintinclude--><!--begintext--> Although some schools in OSU's position might give some thought to grooming their quarterback of the future, the Buckeyes plan to go with their best back-up in a pinch and not consider 2007.
"Whoever is going to give us the best chance to win, he's the guy going in there," quarterbacks coach Joe Daniels said.
Daniels said the mobile Boeckman — who has missed some practice time this week after banging his wrist in last Friday's scrimmage — has moved slightly ahead of the strong-armed Schoenhoft. But Zwick is battle-tested, having led the Buckeyes to an Alamo Bowl victory in 2004.
"What you can't forget is he's got a lot of experience," Daniels said. "He's been under fire. He's been before 105,000. That's a big plus for him. But Troy and Robbie are really showing progress."
Corner: Let's get physical
Sophomore Malcolm Jenkins isn't one of those dainty cornerbacks who shies away from contact. The 6-foot-1, 202-pounder likes to mix it up.
"To play at Ohio State, you've got to love to tackle," said Jenkins, who had nine in the Fiesta Bowl last season. "You have to be physical, and most corners aren't. It's a nice change-up to your game, especially when you can cover."

Something good finally for Zwick
Sunday, September 17, 2006 By Todd Porter Repository sports writer

COLUMBUS - When Justin Zwick enters a game, even his teammates look to the sky. They?re looking for impending doom.

The fifth-year senior at Ohio State knows he doesn?t have great luck. It goes back to a dropped pass in the end zone that might have won last year?s game against Texas.

When Zwick saw his first playing time this season in the season opener against Northern Illinois, he fumbled on a handoff to Chris Wells. Would you expect nothing other than doom on the Massillon grad?s first snap Saturday against Cincinnati?

Zwick threw a perfect pass to fullback Dionte Johnson ? who dropped the ball in the right flat. But then the skies eased up.

On third-and-10, Zwick completed a 36-yard strike with a lineman in his face to Ray Small down the left sideline. The Buckeyes led, 27-7, and the outcome wasn?t in doubt. But Zwick needed this. He needed a scoring drive to boost his confidence.

On the next play, he found Brian Hartline for 27 yards to the Bearcat 9. Maurice Wells scored from there to make it 34-7.

?It was nice to see something positive happen for Justin,? said Buckeye senior lineman T.J. Downing, a GlenOak graduate. ?It was good to see him do well and lead the offense. It was nice to see Brian catch the ball. G-O (GlenOak) baby. ... Justin got on the field, led us to a scoring drive and he proved his worth.?

Not that he or anyone else gives a crap, but I am very, very proud of the way Justin has handled himself during his career at tOSU. He is a great example for other 4 and 5 star recruits that haven't had as much success as anticipated.

And, although I hope Justin doesn't take another meaningful snap in his career at tOSU (doing so would mean something bad happend to Troy), I am extremely happy and comfortable knowing he is our backup.

Very disappointed in our fans for booing Zwick today. Completely uncalled for. I'll be the first to agree Zwick's career hasn't turned out the way I hoped but he's handled himself with class throughout his time at tOSU.

We've got the best QB in the country, so why the lingering bitterness with Zwick? I just don't get it. Leave the kid alone. Zwick is a lot better back-up than most teams have.

Zwick showed some flashes of that potential today. You gotta' love his measurables and I think he's gotten considerably better since his starting days in 2004. I think he has a shot at a pro career whether it be in Canada or the United States.

Saw something about this on another site, and I am not too pleased. The kid has accepted his role, contributes to the team as needed, and has been a solid representative of the university. Zwick is a Buckeye, and needs to be treated as such.
