QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

Laugh at Dalton all you want, but I believe - when healthy - right now he is probably the best QB option for the Bears.
Probably. 1) Because he is a veteran, 2) Because you don't get your #1 pick QB of the future kilt behind a truly awful OL.

I know NFL coaches get enamored with their shiny new toys, but I'll never understand throwing your young qb out there to the wolves when there is really zero tangible benefit to it when he's going to be running for his life and having his confidence wrecked. The list of great QBs that sat for a year...or even a couple...is quite long.

The knock on Haskins and why he slipped in the draft was immaturity. Everyone on here said that was nuts, turns out the scouts were right. The knock on Fields was holding the ball too long, he got sacked 9 times. He needs to make improvements

Today was not on Fields at all. Bears have one of the worst Olines I've seen in the last 5 years. They didn't do him any playcalling favors either. The RPO's were predictable and bland, the running game non-committal, no boots, screens.... nada.

Keep in mind I'm a Browns fan who saw their pressure rates the 1st two weeks. They were great against average to decent olines. The bears line is THAT bad and this wasn't a surprise to anyone.

You're also welcome to go back and find my posts saying Fields was going to slip from the #2 QB spot after the B1G title game.
So JF will earn criticism from me when he does just that - earn it. Today was not an example of such a day. Quite the opposite.

Yep.

Fields is potential right now. He showed the positive attributes in Columbus, but also some tendencies that would require some adjustment time in the NFL. He is not a "plug and play" QB in the NFL. I said during the draft, his ideal landing spot would be SF because he could learn behind Garoppolo and Shanny's offense is tailor made for his skill set. Putting him in Chicago on a team with a terrible history at QB puts him in a very precarious position.

This is why I about puked in my mouth when the Bears selected him. Other than Jacksonville or the Jets, it was about the worst landing spot for him if the Bears weren't going to let him sit a year behind Dalton. Fields can be a great one, but developmentally you will do him no favors having him start his rookie season...he needs time to adjust and mentorship.

I think trial by fire is one of the best ways to learn. That Bears Oiine otoh is a freaking Inferno. Dalton is already hurt and I could see Justin getting dinged also.

Justin still thinks he can make it happen on every single play where the veteran QBs live to fight another day, which is why Dalton is the current best option just until the game slows for Justin some and the Oline decides they should earn their paychecks.
