QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, Pittsburgh Steelers)

I think JF will win the rookie of the year and Trevor will be a first round bust.

I don't see what everyone else see's in Trevor. He's good and I bet he's in the league a long time but i just dont see him doing as well as JF.

Justin Fields scored the highest rating ever on a mental aptitude test

The Chicago Bears scored one of the biggest steals of the 2021 NFL draft in trading up for quarterback Justin Fields with the 11th overall pick. It’s a move that was applauded around the league and has many wondering if Chicago finally found an answer to its quarterback woes.

Back in early April, former Bears quarterback Mark Sanchez appeared on the Pat McAfee Show, where he discussed the ridiculous rumors about Fields’ football intelligence and how it affected his draft stock. In case you needed any indication that it was absolutely bogus, according to Sanchez, Fields scored the highest rating ever on an aptitude test administered by sports psychologist, Dr. Goldman.

The test has been given to over 6,500 professional athletes, and Fields scored in the top 1%. This test focused on the reps needed to learn something and then the ability to recall that later.

For comparison sake, Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen each scored a 108. Fields scored a 130.

“It’s awesome,” Fields said. “From the get-go I could just tell the love from the Bears fans and just how passionate our fans are. So it’s awesome having that support from them. I’ve had a few encounters but it’s been nothing but positive. I’ve just been saying ‘What’s up’ to everybody. All positive encounters and just embracing the love.”

When you think of Justin Fields’ greatest strengths and what got him to where he is today, a few things might come to mind. His arm strength, his mobility, his leadership. Yeah, yeah, we know all of that. Obviously those things all contributed to his success, but what is the one thing that really changed his life? The switch to a vegan diet? The titles and accolades? His family? Okay, I can’t really argue with that one, but what I’m really talking about is Uno Fields — who I think more than qualifies as part of his family.

Now, if you live under a rock and don’t know who I am talking about, Uno is Justin’s French bulldog. More accurately, as Justin put it during his introductory press conference with the Chicago Bears, “He’s my best friend.”

Tell me that isn’t the cutest thing you’ve heard all day. And as cute as the name is, Justin isn’t even the one who came up with it; his teammates told him that he should name his new puppy “Uno”, since Justin wore No. 1 at Ohio State — and will with the Bears. The name stuck, and Justin made an Instagram page for his dog, too. I highly recommend you give it a follow @unofields. He doesn’t post very often, but when he does, it will put a smile on your face. Also, don’t feel bad about yourself and your social media following, but Uno probably has about 49,000 more Insta followers than you do. Well deserved in my opinion, however.

The potential of what could be
And that’s the point. If Justin Fields can turn into what many hope he’ll become in one of the largest and most marketable cities in the country, he’s going to be a superstar of grand proportions. There’s a void there that’s been growing for a long time, and Fields has what it takes to be not only the face of a franchise, but perhaps the face of the city. If Patrick Mahomes can be all over our television sets out of Kansas City, Missouri, then what will it look like if Fields does feats of athletic wonders in Chicagoland.

Imagine what could be. Nobody will ever reach the popularity and global reach Michael Jordan did, but if Fields becomes a superstar of the sport during his time in Chicago, there’s a potential that he’s the next closest thing to when “His Airness” was rolling around town in nice cars, a cigar hanging out of his mouth, and traveling around with a few NBA trophies and MVP awards in tow.

Just imagine then what will happen if Fields helps bring home a couple of Super Bowls, makes multiple Pro Bowls, and goes on an all-out assault on the all-time Chicago passing records. This whole thing could get fun.

Obviously, Fields has to be “that” for the world to embrace him. They won’t rename Soldier Field to Soldier “Fields” without plenty of remarkable things happening while mixing it up as a Monster of the Midway.

Somewhere in here, there’s another piece about living up to lofty expectations, but that’s for another day. For now, many in Chicago, and frankly, some Ohio State fans as well, are waiting to see what happens with Fields and rooting for him to ascend upon the sports superstar throne that hasn’t had a king in Chicago for a long, long time.

Time to “Bear Down” and see how this all plays out. The potential is massive.
