QB Joe Burrow (transfer to LSU, 2019 Heisman Winner, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

I would imagine there is an understanding that any given year he could restructure and defer some of it to help the salary cap as needed. I don't know the NFL salary cap intricacies that well. Just a guess.
That is absolutely true, but I don't know if the Bengals ownership will be able to cut those checks unless JB is willing to restructure to leave money on the table. I'm also not a cap expert, but I believe restructuring to free up cap space requires an owner willing to pay out big chunks of money up front to free up cap space.

Definitely a possibility if needed, but the Bengals did sign some deals for key players that are for multiple years before inking the Burrow deal. There are several you could contend were less $ to help keep Burrow, or to keep within the cap range (mostly looking at Pratt and Wilson, but there were others that I am blanking on).

Regardless, I think Joe would restructure within a reasonable amount to keep guys he believes are crucial to success down the road. He is absolutely right for getting his payday, but he is a competitor and won't hamstring himself in situations where his contract prevents signing or extending someone that is critical.

When someone tries to tell you polls don't matter.....
Bama would've been given a shot with the same roster and a loss to whatever SEC's version of Michigan State is.

Bama was given a shot. 2015 was the year they lost at home to Ole Miss.

Bama got the break because they had the good sense to lose the third weekend of September and not the third weekend of November.

And remember, that wasn't a Jalen Hurts or Tua lead team. The 2015 edition of Bama was QB'ed by Jake fucking Coker.

Catching Up With Joe Burrow: 'We Know We Have The Right People In Place'

n9hncnigskscndxdrubb.jpg

In his perpetual pursuit to evolve as the Bengals franchise quarterback, Joe Burrow showed up for work Thursday with a growing frame to match.

"Trying to get a little bigger and stronger. That's kind of been a focus this offseason," said Burrow of his weight as he put on his cleats while sitting on the turf of the IEL Indoor Facility. "We'll see where it goes. That will kind of be determined as we get closer to training camp. See how I feel."
It looks to be more than his customary 215 pounds, but one thing that feels right is that his offseason regimen with longtime trainer Dak Notestine hasn't gone off track with the rehab for his throwing wrist.

"I'm doing the rehab every day. That's always a part of it," Burrow said. "As far as my offseason training, it hasn't really affected it too much. I've been able to pretty much do everything I normally do from a lifting and conditioning standpoint. I'm in a great spot body-wise."

He says the wrist is, too, after the injury ended his season in the tenth game. His last pass turned out to be a touchdown flip that helped keep him the NFL's all-time accurate passer heading into 2024.

"Getting better every day. We'll continue to throw and progress," Burrow said.

He's also paying attention to the rest of his body.
