QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

I don't know what to think about losing Miller so close to the season opener. Any freshman QB suggests the potential for mistakes that could make this game more of a test than Buckeye fans would like to think. Buckeye deficits in the LB corps and secondary last year also raise some serious questions. Did the guys really step up? Are we back to DAVE-DAVE and some more DAVE? Can the cultural experiment in leadership really lead to mistake-free football from a very vanilla Ohio State offense that won't make up for a lot of errors on defense?

I like the Buckeyes on defense and think that someone puts their hand up in the backfield and Ohio State runs itself out of trouble in the first game. Not pretty but confidence building.

Buckeyes 27-17

To be fair Braxton barely practiced this whole off season, J.T. Had gotten most of the reps. Our Defensive front 7 will be the ones tested against navy not so much the secondary!

I get that and there was always the potential the Miller would not heal in time. Still, game day away, even in a neutral venue can result in some freshman turnovers that can change the dynamics of a game pretty quick. It's one thing to get lots of reps in practice and in that situation. Buckeye fans will need to lower their expectations a bit and let this kid get grounded.

Hoping we can avoid game thread whining infractions...:panic:

JT wasn't considered #2 until a few days before Braxton's re-injury.
By all accounts reps were split down the middle between him and Cardale.

The secondary will definitely be tested -- especially the safeties, but even the CBs will be responsible for edge containment.
Reynolds can also drop a bomb - can't get lulled into the constant option game and forget 1 play. They don't throw often, but he does average over 15yds per completion -- they're looking for big yardage when they do throw it.

Here's hoping that JT is Craig krenzel like...nothing too flashy and gets the job done

I know what you are saying, and I'm a +.5 on it because half of me wants JT to just be smart and conservative, and the other half wants him to have a no fear/don't give a shit approach, and just ball out like Johnny and Jameis (minus the alcoholism, immaturity, rape, and theft of crustaceans, of course).

I'm more concerned with Navy than VT. Navy's offense could present a real problem, it's on the road, and first game jitters = a potential recipe for disaster.

I'm more concerned with how Navy's offensive line blocks. Lots of chop blocks, lots of going for lower legs and knees. Last thing I want to see is that Mercedes D-Line leave Baltimore with lots of nicks and chips.

I like Craig Krenzel. A fine person I'm sure, but as a QB? Yes, he didn't make many mistakes, and some of the ones he did make were drops instead of pick 6's, but talent wise he probably ranked in the middle to lower half of the Big Ten. Further, Craig played on a team with a ton of future NFL talent on the defense and with a great punter and a kicker who were efficient at maintaining field position. JT is not assured of that with this team.

I'm very optimistic about the season, but let's be truthful here - we've lost the one real linebacker we had last year and the one proven corner to the NFL. It's still going to be up to this offense to outscore the other guys by a bunch until the back seven are a proven unit.

Johnny Football's PR person went up in my view. Johnny remains an ass.

Exactly.

Advice straight from Johnny would be more like "No one looks back on their life and remembers the nights they got plenty of sleep so rock out with your cock out my man! something something Hookers something something Blow.....something else unintelligible as he passes out fucking cold with a bottle in one hand and his dick in a plastic swan.
