QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

we have a 5th year sr qb who in week 5 of his senior season has thrown for more pass yards than any qb in school history not to mention is responsible for more td's than any qb in conference history. oh and a whole slew of other team records to boot. he's paired with a group of absurdly young and inexperienced wr's, not to mention his 3rd qb coach, and the assumption is the cause of our passing game issues is......... the qb...

only ohio state fans *sigh*
Feel bad that even doubted him for a second because I did... Once Haskins threw that pick 6 last week I was like "welp JT is no doubt the best"

nothing to feel bad for. a lot of people doubt jt as a qb and i don't actually have a problem with that. the argument i have been trying to get traction with is that our passing issues over the last 2 seasons are not qb problems. at any point over the last 2 years if we had put in an in his prime joe montana the outcome would have been exactly the same. i don't care what your qb's name is, if he's flat on his back he can't throw a completion. i don't care what your qb's name is, if his wr's are not getting open or don't catch the ball when targeted. your qb can't throw throw a completion.

while i do think a lot of the on field blame goes to the oline and wr's, that view is also a lot simplistic. the level of youth we had on the oline last year was so significant that it just should never happen at this level. if you have a true freshman olineman starting at a d1 school and his name isn't orlando pace, you have fundamentally failed before your first game. thats just not a position you walk in and start at as a freshman. our wr situation is such an odd mix of extreme youth and 0 experience.... if i didn't actually watch it occur i wouldn't believe it would be possible. people also talk about how our passing game regressed as the year went on. well of course it did! our schedule was super back loaded with teams that had stud dlines. every time we played a team that had elite dlinemen we got exposed in the passing game. this is because stud freshman olinemen can drive block as true freshmen for the most part. but pass blocking which requires a lot of upper body strength against much older guys.... thats far less doable.

its actually a bit interesting. the last 4 games people have been pounding jt. i actually thought he played pretty well in those 4 games. everyone seems to think he had a great game last night. strictly judging his passing only, i thought he was a bit more off than he has been in previous games. no bad mind you, but i have come to expect a bit more from his ball placement than i saw last night.

I still play competitive sports so maybe its because i have a slightly different perspective than most? but it could also be that im just an idiot and everyone else is right :). <-- if i get a vote this is what im going with, ive met me. i was not impressed :p.

I agree with all of it but I will add I thought JT looked better last night then he did in any game so far this season. Most importantly it seems like he has gotten better with every game so far this year.

Once Kevin got a grip on what this team can do they have really been making strides ever since. We finally have an OC that understands setting our big plays up, understands balance and understands more importantly what we don't do well to avoid getting behind the chains

Now we need to duplicate the performance from last night the next two weeks, put in a great weeks work during the buy, and then unleash on pedo.

I will add that Matt Baxendale is a bitch... has been calling for JT to be benched for some time now and seems to have little regard for sharing that opinion at every turn.

Competition hasn't been great of late, but I believe that we're witnessing the gradual UnBecking of our QB and that like a snowball rolling downhill, the UnBecking is gaining momentum. Whether it will be enough, and whether the OL will be solid enough, to have a competitive passing game against top-notch defenses remains to be seen, but I am becoming somewhat more optimistic.

Agreed. I've been encouraged. Pass game seems more creative. Run game and pass game seem to be more synched up. JT has looked good. Still don't understand why we waste one play a game throwing a bomb to Terry McLaurin though. Kidding. Kindof.

To me the OL is the most important unit on the team this year. A big reason JT has looked good these past 3 weeks---aside from the level of competition---is he has time to throw. He is a very good quarterback when he has time. And a very bad one when he doesn't. And I get all quarterbacks are better with protection but JT can't beat a rush with either quick decision making & arm strength like some quarterbacks or by making plays out of the pocket like a Manziel or Mayfield.

We get this line to pass protect we have a shot to win it all. We don't we don't.
