QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

I do agree that
I think it's nice to have both as a threat. The need for defenses to prepare for both is fun. Clearly the team is playing well with both playing like this, so let's not just write Cardale off completely. He was very effective against Maryland, and though he struggled a little against Penn State, he protected the ball, and we still scored 21 first half points with the Cardale, then Braxton, then JT plan. As long as Cardale continues to protect the ball, he'll be fine. If it's all JT, then that's fine, too. But I LOVE making defenses guess. And I love having options. There may be a game where the read option isn't as effective, but the downfield passing game is.

I'm just going to sit back, and continue to enjoy this ride. The team as a whole is playing at a much higher level right now than they have all year.

Rutgers won't be a cakewalk, they have found some weapons. Hopefully we can use these games to just give MSU and ttun more and more to have to worry about. The way the lines are playing, there is no excuse for this team not to be 10-0 headed into the MSU game.
I do think Rutgers provides Cardale a better chance for success with their lame pass defense. But if the coaches have decided to go with JT now, they need to do it full tilt to make sure he and the offense are ready for the meat of the season. Which is basically the last two games of the regular season, the championship game and the playoffs.

I'd love to see J.T. average about 3 carries a game against the Gophers & Ilini and have those only go toward the flat/sideline. I cringe every time he runs up the middle and gets crumpled.

I'd.love to see JT turn more into Troy Smith, and run only when needed and pick defenses apart with his arm. He showed some decent arm strength on a few throws last night and great accuracy and touch on many others. JT's ability to make the proper reads and find open men allows us to be able to be over the number of WR injuries that have occurred.

This isn't the offense that Ohio State runs. My view is that his running is a big part of what makes the offense click. Take that threat away and it impacts the whole offense adversely.

Man, I agree but that's not what the offense (Urban) is going to do.. I've had the same "bitch" for 3 years

Bitch is in quotes because, well, you know.. Urban.

He's got over 1200 yards rushing and 18 TDs in less than 15 full games plus some spot duty. Passing windows are open because of his run threat.

Also, Troy's receiving corp in 05 and 06 included six NFL players, three of which were 1st rounders, including a Super Bowl MVP. With all the injuries this season Barrett's left with Michael Thomas and a bazillion former high school quarterbacks and Hs as targets.

Yeah. JT is going to take what you give him. If you play 2 deep and make sure you account for Zeke on the option JT is going to run until you change your defense. I would argue that JT's legs are the lesser of three evils if the other 2 options are letting Zeke get to the 2nd level untouched or manning up on the WR's with no deep help. Both of those options lead to long quick scores as opposed to JT running for 10-15 yards a pop and hoping you can get lucky 3 times in a row and force a punt. Our WR corp might be a little heavy with former RB and QB's, but all those guys are very hard to bring down in the open field.

I would guess the rest of the B1G wasn't happy with what they saw on Saturday.

IMO Troy was more dangerous before the coaches (and the rubber chicken Heisman circuit) took away his legs. JT is a GREAT runner (right reads, shifty, deceptively powerful, fast enough, secure with the ball (last week's fumble was fluky IMO), and accounts for the down, distance, and game situation so as to avoid getting behind the chains). I don't want top see him carrying it on desgined runs/options 25 times a game, but 10-15 seems perfect to me.
