QB Dwayne Haskins Jr. (All B1G, B1G OPOY, Silver Football, Rose Bowl MVP, R.I.P.)

MARVEL CREATES CUSTOM COMIC BOOK COVERS FEATURING DWAYNE HASKINS AND NICK BOSA

Teaming up with ESPN, Marvel redesigned five classic comic book covers to feature a 2019 NFL Draft pick in the place of the iconic Marvel hero, and both Haskins and Bosa got the treatment.

Marvel reimagined Haskins in the place of Thor in the super hero's first modern comic book appearance in JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY (1952) #83. Instead of a mighty hammer, Haskins gets a football.

A pair of record-setting throwers have been named Ohio State's Male and Female Athlete of the Year.

Dwayne Haskins was named Wednesday as Ohio State's Male Athlete of the Year for 2018-19, becoming the first football player to win the award since Troy Smith in 2007, while Sade Olatoye was named as Ohio State's Female Athlete of the Year, becoming the first track and field athlete to win that award since former Buckeye sprinter Christina Manning in 2012.

Haskins wins his award after putting together the most statistically prolific season for a quarterback in Ohio State history. He set Big Ten records with 4,831 passing yards and 50 touchdowns this past season, along with the school record for completion percentage (70.0), and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy. He became the first football player to ever win six Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week awards in one season, and led the Buckeyes to a 13-1 record, a Big Ten championship and a Rose Bowl win.

Olatoye wins her award after rewriting the school record books in all four of her throwing events – shot put (17.88 meters) and weight throw (24.46 meters) indoors, and shot put (17.88 meters) and hammer throw (69.37 meters) outdoors – and winning the national title in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She finished in the top five nationally in all four of her events, and helped lead the Buckeyes to Big Ten titles for both the indoor and outdoor seasons.

Both athletes are now finalists for the Big Ten Athlete of the Year awards, which will be voted on and announced by the conference last summer. Haskins has a chance to become Ohio State's third straight Big Ten Male Athlete of the Year – former Buckeye wrestler Kyle Snyder won that award for each of the past two years – while Olatoye looks to become Ohio State's first Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year since Manning.

Dwayne Haskins starts strong at Redskins training camp

The immediate expectations for Dwayne Haskins at the NFL level are certainly mixed. Some argue the best move for the former Ohio State Buckeyes star is a developmental year behind either Colt McCoy or Case Keenum.

Others want the 2018 Heisman Trophy finalist to start immediately as a first-round selection by the franchise. Early in training camp, it appears Haskins is off to a strong start.

“Quarterback Dwayne Haskins had a strong showing and clearly enjoyed himself after some of his touchdown throws,” wrote Redskins ESPN beat writer John Keim. “He handled alert calls, was decisive on throws and accurate. On one red zone play, he paused in the pocket and pointed out a likely blitz. On the snap the blitz came but Haskins delivered a strike on a quick out to the other side for a score to receiver Brian Quick. Haskins celebrated by jumping into Quick.”

With Alex Smith out of action after last year’s gruesome injury, Haskins is in competition with Keenum, a former Houston All-American, and McCoy, who was a two-time Heisman finalist at Texas.

“Dwayne is super talented," McCoy told reporters on Friday. "This offense is not easy to pick up your first year, I remember when I came here I was going into year five, and I learned more football just in OTAs and in the spring. You know, you're challenged to think. I would say the transition for Dwayne from the limited things that I saw in the spring to where we are right now, he's fully embraced it and working hard and not making the same mistakes."

Keenum is also high on Haskins, who he believes is going to be a great NFL quarterback one day.

"He's making leaps and bounds," Keenum said. "He's a really good football player and he's going to be a great quarterback for a long time. He makes some big-time throws with guys in his face."

Haskins may have played just one full season of college football, but it was quite an incredible season. He threw for 4,831 yards, 50 touchdowns and just eight interceptions, which earned him Big Ten Player of the Year honors. He also broke two important all-time Big Ten single-season passing records, surpassing Drew Brees with his 50 touchdown passes. Somehow, despite all of this success, Haskins was the third quarterback to be taken in the 2019 NFL Draft. He also has a comfortable target in Richmond for training camp with third-round pick Terry McLaurin, who had 701 yards and 11 touchdowns with the Buckeyes last season.

Report: Colt McCoy will sit on Thursday, giving the stage to Case Keenum and Dwayne Haskins

According to Craig Hoffman, with 106.7 The Fan, Washington Redskins quarterback Colt McCoy will not play in Thursday nights’ preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

Head coach Jay Gruden told the media on Tuesday morning that they would have a decision on which QB would start the game vs. the Browns after the days’ practice, however, nothing was said of the decision after workouts ended.

Hoffman also pointed out that McCoy sitting out Thursday’s game could go a long way in helping the Redskins’ QB room to develop. McCoy, who is still recovering from offseason leg surgery, is yet to reach 100%, and avoiding a meaningless preseason game could help in his recovery process. It will also allocate more snaps for Dwayne Haskins and Case Keenum, who arguably need the most reps in a new offense.

The three-man race for Washington’s starting spot is pretty crowded at the moment, but Thursday’s game will give everyone a good chance to see where the current competitors stand. While McCoy can’t improve his stance much by sitting out, there’s always the chance that Keenum and Haskins struggle, shooting him out in front of the pack.

Redskins coaches can live with Dwayne Haskins' rookie mistakes for now

Washington Redskins rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins will get a chance in his team’s first preseason game to show he’s past some of the rookie mistakes.

Haskins should get a big workload with Colt McCoy expected to sit. That’s probably a good thing because he’s struggled at times with “the snap count, taking the wrong footwork, telling a guy to maybe run the wrong route,” according to offensive coordinator Kevin O’Connell, via NBC Sports Washington’s Michelle Martinelli.

But O’Connell is fine with taking the good with the bad.

“But I’ll tell you what,” O’Connell said. “Every day, he makes two or three throws that make us all really excited that we’ve got him. And the skillset and talent. It’s just understanding how hard this position is to play.”

Rookie mishaps were expected of Haskins like they are for any passer just entering the league. That he’s having problems with snap counts and the like isn’t alarming — yet. Haskins is splitting time with two other guys, too, so the timing mistakes are expected.

Provided Haskins can eliminate some of these problems during preseason Week 1, the coaches already have a taste of his upside. Such a tandem could mean he’s still in the mix to start late in the preseason.
