Whatever happened to Bobby Hoying? It's like every Buckeye fan forgets about this guy. I've never seen his name mentioned on BP. This guy was fuckin awesome in the 90's. Just thought I'd get this very underappreciated Buckeye back to the top of the list.

Calm down already, Bobby. We'll talk about you more in the future. :p

Ohio State picks 12 to induct in athletics hall of fame

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Bob Hoying didn?t think he was old enough to be elected to anyone?s hall of fame.

So when he got a call last month while vacationing in Florida, informing him he would be entering the Ohio State athletics hall, he was surprised.

?I wasn?t thinking about it,? said Hoying, who lettered at quarterback from 1993 through 1995. ? I?m relatively young, I haven?t been gone that long. But I?m obviously honored by it and excited to go in.?

Hoying joined 11 other former Buckeyes -- six men, six women -- in the hall?s 2008 class. They will be honored at a Sept. 5 banquet and recognized publicly during the Sept. 6 Ohio State football game against Ohio University.

Hoying still holds six school passing records, including career completions (498) and touchdown passes (57).

?They?ll be broken,? he said. ?They won?t stand long.?

Jeff Uhlenhake, left, and Bobby Hoying at today's announcement of the OSU Athletics Hall of Fame class.

"This is probably the last football award I'll ever have, so it's a big honor for me," Hoying said.

He figures his passing records will all be gone someday, too. But he's enjoying them for now.

"I feel kind of proud I was part of the group of offensive players that sort of changed the identity at Ohio State," Hoying said. "For the longest time, at least that I could remember at Ohio State, it was I-formation, run right, run left, play-action pass. And I think my senior year, with Walt Harris coming in and with John Cooper opening up the offense, we were able to do a lot of things you didn't see at Ohio State. So I'm proud of that."

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Bob Hoying is under no illusion that his name will remain for long atop the Ohio State record books.

Already, 13 years after he last played quarterback for the Buckeyes, many of his marks have fallen.

"They'll be broken," he said of the rest. "They won't stand long."

Instead, what he's most proud of is how he and his teammates helped usher in a more modern brand of offensive football in the mid-1990s.

It's what helped Hoying be named yesterday to the Ohio State athletics hall of fame, one of 12 members of the class of 2008.

"I was part of a group of offensive players that sort of changed the identity at Ohio State," Hoying said. "For the longest time, Ohio State football was I-formation, run right, run left, play-action pass.

"And I think my senior year (1995) with Walt Harris coming in (as quarterbacks coach), with (head coach) John Cooper opening up the offense a little bit, we were able to do a lot of different things you didn't see at Ohio State, so I'm very proud of that."

Bobby Hoying, Football 1993-95
A three-year starter, Bobby Hoying led Ohio State to a combined record of 30-7-1 and rewrote the passing record book. As a senior in 1995, he was elected team captain and earned first-team All-Big Ten honors. Hoying set or tied numerous records while at Ohio State, with most of his production coming in the last two seasons of his career. In 1995, Hoying set the record for season passing efficiency (163.4), games with 200 yards passing in a season (11), total offense in a season (3,290), touchdown passes in a career (57) and most completions in a career (498), and tied his prior record of touchdown passes in a game (5 vs. Purdue in 1994 and at Pitt in ?95). Hoying set the record for most consecutive games of 100 or more yards passing with 17.After graduating, Hoying played in the NFL for five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and Oakland Raiders.

Congratulations Bobby.

I still remember the Minnesota game where Herbie got jacked up and had to sit out the rest of the series. The 'C' Deck expert behind me says: "The only backup we have is Bobby fucking Hoying from a division 12 high school? This sucks. Nice recruiting Cooper." I wonder if that guy ever got a job as a talent scout or maybe as an analyst.
