Dihard - I agree no one knows who is the real number one is...yet.

This Wisky does remind of the teams in the 90's, but only when Davis is healthy.

Take him out, and they're only a notch above us.

Wisky 'demolish' Oklahoma? Beat...maybe...dominate...no way - this is a different Oklahoma team than the one who lost its last two games last year.

I think they will run the Big Ten with their schedule, but I'm not ready to put them in the top five in the country right now - they don't have the speed necessary to compete for a NC.

dont have the speed to win a title....man i heard that before......

if wisonsin stays injury free...watch out.......why is purdue ranked number five while the badgers are also-rans....

also...alvarez has the luxury to tool a team for a run every three or four years....this is that year....

Good points.

I think Purdue is overrated too - pollsters are in love with their offense.

Alvarez does have that luxury - and if Stocco continues to play as he did against us - they will be tough to beat.

Assuming they do make it through the season unblemished - which top ranked team offers the most compelling matchup?

As good as another Big 10 National Championship appearance would be, it won't happen this season. If, and this is a huge if, Wisconsin gets by Purdue, I have a feeling things will give with Minnesota--3rd rushing attack against the 6th rushing defense. Two reasons: MBIII and Lawrence Maroney. Second, Purdue has the toughest schedule possible and their performance against Penn State leads me to believe they're not a cut above the rest. I think both teams are great and will lose at least one, and that may not get you to Florida this year.

phenomenal question and some green rubies are coming your way after this post...

i happen to absolutely love barry alvarez style of football when his team is on its game....i really think that when wisconsin is loaded they are EXACTLY like the buckeyes of 02 and 03....and the badgers are loaded this year...

that being said...a wisky v. usc matchup would be not in the interest of the trojans...they would be beaten into submission...

wisky v. oklahoma would be a great game as would wisky v. auburn.....

purdue is the type of team that can beat wisconsin...as would cal......

just my two cents.....i do think that when presented with the talent, alvarez and tressel are two guys who can impose their will on the opponent...

alvarez also showed tremendous respect by not scoring late last week....

for years i have felt...if not the bucks...let it be wisconsin....

I wish nothing but defeat for any team demonstrating absolutely no respect for another team's home field. I would be completely satisfied if they lost the rest of their games. Wisconsin can win by 3, but Utah can win by 17 (see Arizona). I've watched both teams play this year, Wisconsin is a Cinderella.

if you dont think alvarez showed class late in the game....you need to re-examine your position...

if you were to ask alvarez who he respects most as an opponents coach....he would say tressel...and if you asked jt....he would say barry.....

there is a reason the reynolds grabbing of sorgi's neck didnt get played up larger than it did....and that is b/c alvarez knew the class with which tressel tries to run a program...

barry and wisconsin showed tremendous class by accepting an apology and going forward....alvarez also showed great respect for coach t by being so accomadating.....

I have nothing against Alvarez. I have a big problem with their team holding a parade on our 50 yard line. That demonstrates absolutely 0 class.
The BSB reports that it was ONE player - and the brother of former OSU player Darnell Sanders to boot.

We don't like one bad apple staining our reputation - let's extend Wisky and very well respected Alvarez the same courtesy.

Wisconsin has all the ingredients to win it all; A stable offense with a cool QB and a great RB, and a consistent O-line. The defense could hurt anyone in the country and they are stable on special teams (not great but stable).

Purdue has a really good at QB position and has a good o-line and a good stable of Wr's. Purdues defense isn't terrible either though but not as dominant as Wisconsin's. Thats their weakness. If Wisconsin can get some long drives and dominate the TOP and keep pressure on Orton and/or keep him off the field then they can win this next game.

The only thing I can say critical about both teams is that both have had only one true test so far. Other than that both have had a pretty easy schedules. This game will tell who is for real.

scarletflag,
Alvareaz showed tremendous class on that last drive by rushing and winding down the clock instead of going for another fast TD to drive up the score on OSU in the last minutes of the game. He was also out there in the middle of that scrum trying to break away his players and stop them from fighting when that fight started, at risk to himself.
That stupid act by Wisconsin was initiated by Sanders #14 and he of all people should know better. His brother was an OSU Buckeye. That seemed like a lone kids trying to be cute and then a few stragglers followed. Don't worry though because I bet you $10 his older brother will be beating him down this thanksgiving after dinner for that act upon the Buckeyes logo.

I just want to add my agreement that Barry Alvarez is a top notch coach imo. He is exactly the type of coach that can win a National Championship with this team. Wisconsin's speed on Defense has always hurt them, but I didn't see any problems with their speed last week.

Without a doubt I think this is there biggest challenge this weekend. If they win this one I can't see any of the teams winning against them.

Purdue I think could win out if they get past Wisky, but when scUM and Ohio Stat are still on the schedule, even thought these are weaker teams than their tradition would indicate, it is hard to say that you favor them to get there.

Wisky is good, but I still think they are untested. I would not rank them in the top 5 right now, and I think the only top five team they could beat is USC. Well, probably Miami as well. But I really think that Oklahomo would kill Wisky. I think you'll see in the weeks to come that Wisky's D isn't as good as they're ranked so far....and their O isn't enough for their D to let down at all. The 2002 Buckeyes had a spectacular all around defense, and little to no offense. Wisky is similiar, but their D isn't as good. They have a great D line, but their LB's and secondary are only average. Not bad, but not spectacular....which is why I think they would get killed by an Oklahomo.

scarlett....nobody really knows who the best team is...when wisconsin beats number five purdue this weekend....watch out...

i just know that wisconsin has what it takes to win it all.....then again so does....usc, oklahomo, purdont, auburn and georgia.....

loky....

i think wisky demolishes oklahoma....the sooners are designed to be beaten by a buckeye/wisky team.....usc wouldnt hold up either....

people...the badgers are for real....
wiscy, yes...
Buckeyes, HELL NO. we can't run, and we aren't stopping the run... OU would beat the pants off the Buckeyes this year... LAST year is a completely different story...

the badgers have lost their top three defensive lineman in this game.....the fact that they still can win is a testament to them....

could you imagine playing purdue last year with smith, anderson and scott all getting hurt in the same game....there is no answer for that....
