PS3 Madden Online Franchise Discussion Thread

Welcome to the the Madden NFL 10 Buckeye Planet Online Franchise. For those of you who played or are playing in the NCAA Online Dynasties, this franchise will feel familiar. Many of the rules are the same.

Rules:

  • The franchise has a possible 32 slots. If you are interested in joining the franchise either post in this thread or send me a PM. Please include what team you'd like (AFC and NFC) and your PSN. I would like to keep the AFC and NFC teams even. Right now there are five AFC teams and five NFC teams, so the next person to join can choose from any available team left.

  • SUBJECT TO CHANGE: 6 minute quarters on All-Pro difficulty and default sliders. The sliders will probably change as we go through and determine what needs to be tweeked. If you have any suggestions, bitches, gripes, or complaints on sliders (and who won't?), feel free to post them here. If All-Pro gets too easy, we'll go to All-Madden.

  • The schedule for the first year will be the default 2009 NFL schedule with adjustments to make sure everybody plays the same number of human v. human opponents. With the number of players so far, everybody should be able to play each other once per season. Subsequent years will at first follow whatever the schedule generator spits out, but I'll adjust it so that everybody has the same number of human v. human games (if possible).

  • We will complete 2 "game weeks" in 1 "real week". This is a 17 week season with 4 weeks of playoffs. This doesn't give us a lot of time to build a franchise. I wouldn't be surprised if we complete only three full seasons. It's also because of this that I'm thinking about simming preseason. If I can turn off injuries during the preseason and turn them back on to start the regular season, I will.

  • No cheesing. Don't be stupid. You know a BS play when you see it. Don't do it. That 92 SPD backup RB better not be the #1 FB on your depth chart. Punt in obvious punting situations. Don't exploit glitches. If you feel your opponent is cheesing, either post it here or PM me and we'll try to come to an amicable decision.

I MAY be interested. Not sure. Put me down as a possibility. Dont really care what team, prefer the Colts or Browns but whatever. What would really be cool is if we could export draft classes from our PS3 NCAA league...

Now THAT is a kick ass idea. I can see us drafting only guys that played for our college counterpart.

Too bad Jordan wouldn't be available in these draft classes :tongue2:

Regarding being in, I am 80% sure I will be getting Madden and if I get Madden I am in this league.

Regarding teams, if we get enough guys I would prefer a fantasy draft. Thus teams can be a bit more even to start as there are only so many good teams to be taken. But if we only get about 8 guys, a fantasy draft would get too skewed with cpu teams.

How do you guys find the time? If I was still in college I'd be all over all these leagues. Maybe when I'm 72 and retired I'll be down for a league in madden 2050.

It's called finding ways to avoid the wife :wink2: Iron and Wood will find out soon enough.

But seriously, my wife is pretty cool as this is my 'alone' time. In my wife's eyes it is better than me playing online poker 1-2 hours a night. Plus my wife normally passes out watching TV. Then throw in I have no social life due to my 10 month old.

My wife was calling me a nerd and kinda [censored]ed about it before she compared me to all the other husbands of wives she knows and realized I'm pretty awesome. But [censored], even with working, finding quality time with my daughters, then quality time with my wife, and sleeping I'm still having to cram in time for the PS3.

This is where I am lucky I have a baby. He is asleep by 8pm and really my wife handles him the last 30 minutes for bath time, last feeding and bedtime story.

I can easily see when he gets older and stays up a little later that my PS3 time will become nothing but a weekend event. But that is a few years down the road. (I hope)

Typically during school the kids are in bed at 7:30 or at the latest 8:00 but now with summer we're pushing that back to 8:30 to 9:00 most nights.

Typically when I play it's at 10 or 11 and these games last an hour at least. Putting my bedtime later than I prefer. I'd have to have some kind of rotating gaming schedule.

It's tough to get these games in but I usually have my alone time from 9:00 CT on. I get home between 5:30 and 6:30 every evening and that time until 9 is family time. Most nights we have some practice or something . During baseball season it's tough for me to play because I coach the middle child. We practice 2 nights a week and play 2 or 3 more.
The older boys go to bed about 9 and the baby is usually asleep by 8:30. My wife stays home so she is pretty much on the same schedule as the kids and she's pregnant so she sleeps a lot.

I get called a dork pretty often for these dynasties. She also gets extremely pissed when I say "I have to play a game." She says I want to play but she doesnt understand.

Just wait. It gets far more difficult. It is also impossible to play when you have young kids questioning your every play call. I refuse to play human games before 8:00 for this reason. I can't be alone and it throws me off.

Same here. Luckily I usually dont have meetings until 9-9:30 so I can sleep in a little. Lately I've been going to in at 7:00 to get emails answered though.

My plan is to save real draft classes from NCAA 10. Now, if we want, we can save draft classes from one of the online dynasties, but the only way that would work is if I simmed the first season and exported the draft class. There's no way we'll be done with a season in NCAA before Madden comes out. In the last two Maddens, one had to import a dynasty at the beginning of the season in order to do in-season scouting. I assume it'll be the same way this year.

I'll have the first draft class done by the time Madden comes out. A lot of it has to do with when the guys who do the rosters release them, but that should only be a matter of a day or two. But I do plan on importing draft classes every season.
