I just got my PS3 yesterday (yay!), and I can connect long enough to pass the Internet connection test. I even connected long enough to download whatever update was needed when I first plugged it in.

The problem is, about 3 minutes later I'll get a message saying "You have been disconnected from the access point", and anything I've been doing online up to that point shuts down. If I wait a couple seconds after that message and continue what I'm doing, I'm fine. But if I try to load a browser or sign up for the PSN, I get booted.

This might be a PS3 problem, it might be a connection to my wireless router problem, I'm not sure. I have my router restrict access to everything except the MAC addresses I say are OK. I've added my PS3 to this list. Obviously that works because I can connect for brief moments of time.

Does anybody have any ideas as to why I continually get the disconnect message (every 20 or 30 seconds)? It even pops up while I'm trying to play a game that isn't online.

Apparently it's some issue the PS3 has with some Linksys routers. Some people suggested I turn off some kind of Media Update something or other....it didn't work. Some people suggested enabling UPnP, some suggested disabling it. While playing around with that inside my router....my password changed and I don't know how or to what, so I ended up resetting it.

Net result: I lost all my router settings, and I have to run a crossover cable from my laptop to my PS3 if I want to play online.

BN, thought you had an XBOX 360?

But the one reason I am thinking about getting a PS3 is because of the wireless connection. So I wish you well in getting connected.

nope, I went with the PS3 Sunday.

I've been told the router is most likely the problem, not the PS3.
have you talked to someone at sony about this?

i haven't been able to connect long enough to get the new update either, and it keeps kicking me out of socom the last few days.. i assumed it was a sony problem after reseting the network a few times.

although i can get on the browser on the ps3 and go check out the net..

hey bn, here are a few things i have found about linksys routers and ps3 hope they help...

(quoted from another forum)

since both the PS3 and the GA are compatible with the TCP/IP protocal, it does not matter if the PS3 support is not mentioned on the GA .....it will support this device....
first access the PS3 setup and assign a static IP with subnet gateway and DNS....remember the IP u have assigned to the PS3 ....

hardwire the router to the PC and the GA to the router.....bring up your web browser and http://192.168.1.1 "admin" is the password....go to "application and gaming" and forward the ports for PS3. .... 6000-6999 UDP and 10070-10080 TCP.
to know how to forward ports...visit http://kb.linksys.com and look for answer ID 688 ...

reset the GA for a minute and run the setup CD....configure as required...

and

This gaming adapter does work on the 20GB PS3 as I am using one now. You need to ensure both IP addresses are the same on the GA and PS3 (default is 192.168.1.250). Also, set the Gateway/Router addresses the same on the GA and PS3 (default is 192.168.1.1). Make sure you have the switch on GA set to INFRA (infrastructure). Set Mask to 255.255.255.0. Hope this helps...

that worked to where I could connect.....but it would disconnect me whenever I tried to do something.

it's completely possible that I did it wrong, however.

i;ve been playing PS3 online for the last 6 months.. it suddenly stopped working the night before you're first post.. i've been enjoying dynasty mode so i can care less.. but its interesting this happened because sony had it happen before (like back in feb.) and then corrected the issue.

I actually am having the same exact problem with my PS3-Linksys setup. Problem is it only started happening after update 1.82.

For those who are having wired connection problems...

Are you using a LAN Crossover cable? That maybe the problem, if you setup a wired LAN the needs internet access you have to use a crossover cable, availible at any nerd-tech store (Radio Shack, Best Buy, Circuit City ect.).

The crossover cable switches the in/out wires so your CPU/Ps3 can send out info and recieve in info. If you dont do this then you are trying to send information to the router over the same wires that the router is trying to use to communicate with the CPU/PS3, thats where you lose link when trying to access beyond the router.

The only thing I can connect with is a crossover cable (although I haven't tried just hooking it up to the router, because the router isn't in the same room).

The problem I'm having is wireless.
