Project the Playing Time

Its just about here. Time to start talking basketball again!!!

Thought I would open a thread to project how much PT everyone will be getting until Oden returns. So, list your five starters first, but also account for 200 minutes per game. Here is mine:

Butler - 36
Cook - 30
Lewis - 32
Terwilliger - 26
Harris - 20

Conley - 23
Lighty - 15
Hunter -16
Payne - 2

Wow. These are close. Is there really that much consensus? I guess there aren't exactly an infinite number of combinations.

I hate to even bring it up, but can you imagine the hurt we will be in if we suffer even one more injury?

Well you have to figure that Lewis and Butler arent going to leave the court hardly at all. Then you have Twig/Hunter/Harris to man the 4/5 so they are going to be on the court quite often.

Then you have the Cook/Lighty/Conley as the 3 guys that are going to rotate thru at the open guard spot and give Butler and Lewis their breaks.

So overall I would think that the minutes are going to be pretty close to what we think unless Conley or Lighty step up and deserve more time than Cook, but as of now I think Cook is going to see the most time out of them 3.

Payne/Other - 2

I think Matta will get Conley on the floor early and often and put Butler more at the 1.5G position. All to help Conley get his feet wet running the offense and playing D, allowing Butler to score more and to put more pressure on the perimeter until the big guy is back.

logically the numbers you have are more or less spot on because they are short. Maybe they have another non-scholarship big guy or two to fill in at the posts, but I don't know....

Terwilliger scares the crap out of me. Hopefully he traded in his hands of stone. I'm sure Matta saw the same thing.

I am OK with Twigs if he never catches a pass so long as he can play D. We have plenty of scorers. Even rebounding can take care of itself. But we need someone to man the middle.

its a real possibility this team is one injury away from crawling just barely into an nit birth. with oden out till the first of the year and only 3 guys to play the four and five, things could get ugly...

Just like last year.

Honestly, Oden will be back before the start of the Big Ten, mark my words. Twigs will get the job done in the post, but keep an eye on Hunter, he could be a suprise inside. He needs to get stronger, but he has a big body and is athletic.

This team is ranked as high as #2 in the nation by some and no lower than #10 by some in the nation. Looking at their schedule, they realistically, expecting what we do from the newcomers, be right around 10-2 or better when the Big Ten kicks off on Jan 1. The losses being UNC, Florida. I just don't see this team without Oden being able to go on the road and win at those 2 places, with this young team.

what ive got as projected l's
unc, uf
should wins
uc, isu, tenn (after the oden date in the schot)
wins the other 8

so ive got a team between 8 and 5 and 11 and 2. id say 9 and 4 or 10 and 3. essentially a team that if they win 8 games in the b10 they are in.

at a quick glance youve got
northwestern, psu, msu, purdue, um twice
ill, ind, wisc, minn, iowa once

all that being said with oden they have 4 big men and limited scholie numbers. i still maintain this team absolutely cant have a rash of injuries. that being said a fab fivesh season wouldnt shock me. once you make the tourney anythign can happen. but thad is coach of the year hands down if this team wins the reg season championship...

I agree with you Otis, I just happen to think that this team has enough perimeter guys to get away with not having Oden in the beginning and when he returns he will most likely exceed expectations. I believe he will dominate the Big Ten from the very first game and he is a once and a lifetime big man unlike anyone has seen in college in years, teams will have to adjust to him.....he will not have to adjust to college, he is a force on the defensive end and he will score. Enjoy it, while it lasts. :wink2:

Having said all that, everyone needs to be healthy and I agree, injuries will kill us because of our lack of depth.

good point. It was just nice having a legit scorer in the post the last couple years with Dials....

Oden will be fun to watch.
