Preseason Buckeye Planet Poll

I'm a voter, here's my preseason poll.

01. Ohio St.
02. Texas
03. USC
04. Auburn
05. Miami (FL)
06. Georgia
07. Louisville
08. LSU
09. West Virginia
10. Notre Dame
11. Oklahoma
12. Florida St.
13. California
14. Iowa
15. Florida

18. Nebraska
19. Virginia Tech
20. Wisconsin
21. Texas Tech
22. Arizona St
23. Tennessee
24. TCU
25. Oregon

No Penn St. They not only lose Robinson, but their secondary was very good last year and it's all gone. They also only return 1 starter on each line. My vote for Wiscy was before Stocco got hurt.

I voted, but if last year was an indication, I won't really feel I have a grasp on where teams should be until we're well into things. It sure is easier after seeing a good number of teams and being able to use stats to fill in the gaps. Might start posting lists midway through the season.

The top five was tough... too many question marks all around. I did have OSU first... our question marks are on defense and I'm pretty confident of the answer there. ND turned out to be much higher on the list than I thought they would be when I started it... but returning a veteran qb is good for a few bonus points. Have to have a few games to check out the rookies and see what teams jump up the list as a result. I suspect ND will drop in my rankings quicky; just not sure to whom.

I love the fact that you didn't put the Canes in your top 25. The more I evaluate, the more I think that 15 was too high.

I noticed that, too. Ive got Miami at #5. They return most of a very good defense, and have a decent returning starting QB. How they react to the debacle in the Peach Bowl and the off-season suspensions is hard to predict, though.

I went out on a limb... put this talent under a very good coaching staff, they are top-8 material. If Coker weren't on the hot seat, I'd put them at 15ish. However, Coker is sitting on a volcanic hot seat, and I think they could go down in flames quickly if they struggle early. Suspensions + FSU opener, and things could start downhill immediately.

clemson, nebraska, and michigan are top-10 teams. clemson will win the acc, nebraska will beat usc, and michigan's only loss will be to us.

mark it down.

Ever heard of defense? Neither have those three teams!

The only one of the group that is supposed to have a good defense this year is Nebraska but I'm not sold on their ability to move the ball both through the air and on the ground. The big 12 will cost them two games and they have USC on the schedule as well. They won't finish top 18 probably.

We know scUM will fold, its a given.

Clemson will lose three games this season also.

3 losses does not equal top 10 this season.

Here is my poll. FWIW, don't put a lot of stock in these early polls...it's easy (and fun) to critique them, but until I get a chance to actually watch these teams, it is all speculation. I'm comfortable with this poll, but injuries, suspensions, and crash-and-burns are a part of the game, and I guarantee everybody will be surprised at something that happens this season.
