My surprise player for 2005 is Lukens. I believe he works his way into a 5th DB position and plays a key role in what is shaping up to be a very good defense.

When it comes to a man with raw potential Gholston is the guy. His Nike camp numbers were not to be believed. I can't recall what they were, but no DE prospect was bigger/faster/ stronger than Gholston.Onebuckfan said:To win anything we need a Pass rush and a running game: So Hopefully Vern Gholston will be the pass rusher, and being a long time East-sider(Walnut Ridge "72) Eric Haw will strengthen the running game..and Alex Boone as top freshman

One of the BN Insiders alluded to Haw being fragile so far. Supposedly, he has not adjusted well to the intensity of a college practice and was constantly getting dinged up.ScarletInMyVeins said:I am definently on the Haw bandwagon but one of the coaches said earlier this year that (and I am just paraphrasing here) he doesn't have all of the fundamentals right now. There was someting to the effect of his head not being there. Now whether that is a confidence thing or he isn't mentally ready for college ball yet is beyond me
I hope neither is the case because I was really looking forward to big things from Mr. Haw.osugrad21 said:One of the BN Insiders alluded to Haw being fragile so far. Supposedly, he has not adjusted well to the intensity of a college practice and was constantly getting dinged up.
A good off-season of conditioning should help that physically and, most importantly, mentally. Pitt had a jump on him from the early enrollment and extra conditioning...Haw went from being "the man" to being another player. Sometimes that can be a hard adjustment. He'll be fine IMO.ScarletInMyVeins said:I hope neither is the case because I was really looking forward to big things from Mr. Haw.
I'd say the WHAC will work just fine :)ZachDumas said:As for an off-season program, I hope he finds a good place to get ready
everything he said.daddyphatsacs said:Quinn Pitcock. He will be on many All American lists at the end of next season. He is prime for a huge season, he started to come into his own late in the season. He has crazy athletism, strength, and finally has learned the technique for an interior lineman. I think that his emergence was the key to the improvement of our defense late in 2004. Also keep your eye on Sian Cotton next season on the defensive line.
The other defensive player that will become a household name is Marcus Freeman. The buzz on him is unreal, and many are saying that he is prime to be something special. I look for him to split time in the middle with MDA and Schlegal. He'll also be a good reserve OLB.
On offense I like the call of Nichol. I think that with great receivers on both sides, you will see Nichol get a matchup on a LB most of the time. This is a battle that he should win everytime. If we can get our TE's going along with our WR's, the running game will most certainly progress.
