Well, as I walked into the board with 2 First Sargeants, a Staff Sargeant, and a Command Sargeant Major.. The very first thing that happens... the button on my pocket pops off onto the floor.... (i am hating life)
I pick up the button, shove it in my pocket, walk to the front of the board and report, after the salute the CSM asks "What did you pick up?" I tell him. He responds, "What button? Oh Nevermind I see it." Looks me straight in the eyes and says "Wow, that must suck." He Then tells me not to worry he won't count that against me. (I start breathing again) They start asking various questions, I am doing fairly well I think, then they get to current events. First they ask me to tell what I know about the Nurse shorage in the hospital (no big deal). Then he asks me to PICK one current event and tell them how it affects the army and the hospital. So I start in on the bird flu, telling about how we could be called upon for forced quarantines and to treat the sick. Mid-sentence the CSM asks what would the effect on the eco-system be if a large portion of the birds were wiped out. I try to keep it simple and say it would affect the food-chain. He appearantly wants more, and asks me to be more specific. (Here is where dumb-luck comes into play) So I say that the insect poplulation could become a problem without birds to eat them. This is appearantly EXACTLY what he was looking for and he begins talking to the other sargeants in the room about how bad it would be. This conversation denegrates quickly when a first sargeant asks if that means we wouldn't have any more KFCs. They discuss this, completely ignoring me for the next 5 minutes while I stand at attention(I even managed to keep a straight face the whole time, I was happy). Eventually I they finish questioning me and I am released. 2 hours later after everyone is finished we all get called in and talked to a little bit, the first sargeant who made the KFC comment told me that I did very well and judging from all my PT, Rifle, and academic scores I am doing very well, but I dont need to be serious all the time. Heh, never thought I'd hear that. Finally, my score. 149 out of 150. Now I am thrilled. The End.
