Students invent powdered booze
POSTED: 9:16 a.m. EDT, June 6, 2007

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (Reuters) -- Dutch students have invented powdered alcohol which they say can be sold legally to minors.
The latest innovation in inebriation, called Booz2Go, is available in 20-gram packets that cost ?1-1.5 ($1.35-$2).
Top it up with water and you have a bubbly, lime-colored and -flavored drink with just 3 percent alcohol content.
"We are aiming for the youth market. They are really more into it because you can compare it with Bacardi-mixed drinks," 20-year-old Harm van Elderen told Reuters.
cont..

"We are aiming at the youth market..."

So any bets on how quickly this will be legislated out of legality?

The legal age for drinking alcohol and smoking is 16 in the Netherlands.
In Germany, alcopops -- sweet drinks containing alcohol and in powder form -- caused quite a stir when launched on to the market. Alcohol powder, classified as a flavoring, was sold in the United States three years ago.

In the U.S. I will take "probably never" in the pool please. In the Netherlands can I have "never?"

What odds are you offering?

Seriously, this powder has only 3% alcohol, thats less than almost every over the counter cough syrup available in the use. It's highly doubtful anyone will care about it enough to legislate against it if they haven't by now.

You're right, it would cause just about as much harm as....

I don't know...

Two dudes, or two chicks getting married.:ohwell:

edit; I aint saying it's right, I'm just saying don't underestimate the religious right... am I right?

I get what your saying, yes. But even in Utah, definitely religioius, definitely conservative, bars are allowed to serve beer and wine that is 3.2% alcohol by volume.

Of course, as support to your point we can refer back to OCBF's post! :( 3.2% alcohol by volume.

Wouldn't the alcohol content depend on how much water you add? What if you double up the packets? I'm confused here...

Sounds like a winner.

As an unlicensed practitioner I recommend that you add this many alcopops to a shot glass and see if that helps with the confusion.

Maybe not too new, but they really need to work on packaging it up like those Crystal Light singles, so the kids can sneak them into the lunchroom easier.

edit, how many of you remember those "Pipsi" static cling can wraps? I was accompanied by those to many a Dead show!
