(An earlier Ohio State All-American)
We’re into the “quiet period”, that time between the end of the regular season (except for Army-Navy) and the bowl season. That means the various media folks will be bestowing their versions of All-American recognition and awards upon collegiate football players they deem worthy of the hone, based upon the on-field accomplishments of the young men.
Up today; the USA Today All-American Team. You’ll notice that several Buckeyes made it on to their 1st and 2nd teams. They are:
Thoughts
Bosa’s recognition as a 1st team selection shouldn’t surprise anyone. He punctuated his career at Ohio State with a stellar performance in his last regular season game, The Game.
Elliott’s 2nd team selection was no surprise, either. Zeke finished 6th in the country in rushing (139 YPG) and 3rd in rushing TDs (19). All things considered, a good showing.
Decker’s selection made sense as well. I think that his performance was prominent in a group that aided Elliott’s performance. These two selections seem to go hand-in-hand.
I’m not sure why Cam Johnston didn’t get any “love”; although his average of 44 yds/punt placed him only 23rd in the country. Evidently, the selection committee pays little heed to “situational” punting.
I’m sure we’ll be commenting on the other pundits as they chime in with their selections. Get out your Post-Season Score Cards© and stay tuned.
