Can anyone tell me why my post number just stays at 297 no matter how much I post? :sob:

Edit- As soon I posted here, it went up to 298. But posting in other forums, it stayed the same.

Well, I guess it's an honest question so here goes. The way BuckeyePlanet handles Member Information is a bit different from other sites such as Bucknuts. Here whatever changes on one of your posts changes on ALL of your prvious posts. For instance, if you change your avatar graphic ... all you previous posts will now display the new avatar graphic. When you go from post 300 to post 301 ... all of your previous posts will now display your current total of 301.

So unless you really mean that you total wasn't changing at all (i.e. post 300 says 300, post 301 says 300, post 302 says 300, post 303 says 300, etc.) this is the difference. I'm assuming you didn't realize the post total actually when up with each post as all your previous posts now displayed that new number. Follow?

EDIT: If your post total when down, then some threads/posts must have been deleted. I thought this way of totalling posts was changed awhile back, but maybe not. It is also fairly unusual as all of the mods/admins are VERY reluctant to delete threads/posts. Sometimes we move then off the main boards to a holding area, but generally not a complete delete. This also brings up another point. Members can delete their own posts. That is, threads/posts that they themselves started. This happens somewhat more frequently and it is possible that is the cause of your missing posts. If fact, I know 1 such thread with a fair amount of replies was recently deleted by the author "Is anyone worried about Miami" (or something like that).

Got ya. I was just postong in the open discussion and Buckeye thread, but my post number didn't move all day. Actually, two days ago I was over 300, then got on today and was back at 297. Doesn't really matter, I just wasn't sure how/why.

I posted this as an edit in my previous post, but since things are moving along, I'll repost so that you see it:

Wait a second, do you mean Thump controls over 4,000 posts for the Al Gore thread?

Yes.

Edit: Sort of. Thump (or any member) can not permently delete a thread. The Admins and Mods can restore it if need be. This was done awhile back when donnyjr started eliminating all traces of his existance on BP. That threw the database and member post totals into disarray. The threads were restored. I was under the impression that the way post totals were calculated was changed at that time as to avoid such problems in the future. Apparently not.
