Google "Islamic machete attack" and you'll see the association does exist, at least according to ISIS, Reuters, the UPI, and ABC, among others.

But none of this is relevant at this time. We really don't know exactly what happened at OSU yet. All we know is that it's bad. :sad:

Yes. Now its a "Large Kitchen Knife" according to some reports - so perhaps a disgruntled short order cook, who the fuck knows.

Ohio State University Police and local law enforcement continue to respond to a public safety incident on Ohio State’s campus. A suspect has been shot and reported deceased. Victim injuries include stab wounds, injury by motor vehicle and other injuries that are being evaluated. At the recommendation of law enforcement, campus alerts for shelter in place have been lifted. Campus remains open during the continued investigation, although classes have been canceled for the remainder of the day. Facts are still being verified. We will hold a media briefing as soon as we are able. The university will continue to share information through Buckeye Alert and emergency.osu.edu. Our top priority remains the safety and security of our campus community. Our thoughts and prayers are with those injured and their families.

You are right, of course.

But IF the attacker is, say, a radicalized Muslim, we have been conditioned to expect lectures on how peaceful Islam is, and the emphasis will be on trying to prevent backlash on innocent Muslims - which always seems to be long on fear and short on reality - and frankly I'm more concerned about the dead and injured innocents than I am for the imagined and feared dead and injured innocents.

And if the criminal is just some evil nut, and if a gun was used, we are conditioned to hear high on lectures about more gun control - which is a proven waste of breath and time. If the only weapons were a vehicle and a knife, it will be interesting to see whether vehicle and cutting utensil bans are proposed as solutions.

That's why you are getting this speculation.

So after all of that, there was no "active shooter" but rather a Somali student with a machete. Could've been worse, but no less frightening for those who were there.
