Publicly scolding the moderators for not doing their jobs seems like a great way to bring about change regarding insults. Of course, when considering that approach and how much they are paid, it might not be the moderation you were hoping for.

So moderate me, then. I honestly wasn't sure there was moderation at this board at all. Considering I've been nothing but civil, and entered this thread with nothing but relevant comments...it would be hilarious if you actually banned me. The fact remains that your members are being less than hospitable, and you don't seem to care. Maybe you're the bartender that refuses new business in that poorly crafted "bar" analogy that one of the less...sophisticated community members posited.

the one making a ridiculous fuss and being an antagonist is you.

Please. Without any insult provocation, you started playing the victim card and falsely accusing people of insulting you and scolding the website for allowing it to happen.

Further more, I know the Buckeyes well enough to pass the test that they included as part of the registration. However, if I choose to come here for the political discussion (and to see what Ohioans other than my friends and family are thinking about bills that very much affect my life), that's my prerogative. I don't think it's beneficial to your community for you to insult new members, especially if you want a thriving, growing community of people with whom to discourse.
No one insulted you. It is weird for someone to register on a sports forum and dive into the deep end of political discourse immediately with no other stops.

There is nothing insulting about noticing and noting that. There is also nothing wrong with it, but you don't crash a community with a lengthy exchange like that and expect everyone to not notice. The nature of your post was earnest and detailed, intended to make an impact. That is quite a loud start on a site generally focused on recruiting and sports.

You leave, and soon there is a page full of diverse responses from many users. the little sideshow is over.

do you discuss the issue? or continue polluting the thread with overly dramatic antics and martyrdom about how you were attacked?

The latter:

I don't care if I'm agreed with or not, frankly. But when a post that's relevant to the initial thread topic is dismissed out of hand because it's from an individual with one post, I would say that reflects very poorly on your community here. I'd like to discuss the merits of both sides of the argument, instead of being personally attacked based on number of posts.

Also, I'd appreciate it if people didn't bother tossing out anecdotal evidence as if it's empirical. Anecdotal evidence is all but useless, especially when you're talking about policy decisions that will affect hundreds of thousand of people both directly and indirectly.
he did not throw out your post. He said, wow, that is quite an entrance, and quite frankly it was.

Can we just debate viewpoints and stop trying so hard to find things to be offended by? When actual insults are handed out, they are reviewed and dealt with. When someone says, well that was really something, it does not threaten to bring a community back to the stone ages of discourse.

This subsection of the board is political. I wanted to read opinions on Senate Bill 5 from Ohio citizens, then contribute my piece. I did so, then got several snarky posts in response.

There are no "good" political boards solely for our state issues, unfortunately. I follow Buckeyes football and basketball, but don't really have an interest in discussing it on this board. Sorry if that's a crime.

Depends on your point of view.

for the retirees, it's pretty good. 80% of your top 3 years if you've worked over 40 years, something like 75% for 35 years and 70% for 30 years.

I might have those numbers a bit skewed, but they are close.

For the government, they are going to be paying those salaries for decades. The cost associated with that is why the government went to FERS in the 80s.

It was probably a decent plan when there weren't as many careerist types within the government workforce, but with the eventual expansion of the government workforce it will quickly become an albatross within the budget.

About 3-4 years ago (maybe even 5) this very type of pension was ended within my present company. I thought it was an amazing consideration as I had never heard of it before. The ones who took the most advantage of it were the sales people who were pulling in low to mid six figures. At that, they could retire at any age.

Can't blame any organization for getting rid of that type of system.

Yeah - when I worked for GD I had a similar plan too actually. Looking at the projections were very interesting to see

Like, if I retired when I was making something like $85,000 per year (which would have occurred, given yearly raises, sometime around 2015ish), then I would have made something like $94,000 per year in retirement. I chickened out and didn't call to verify that and in either case I've since changed employers.

no, you made a verbose entrance on a very complex subject.

You got one response about that unusual entrance. The rest just kept debating the topic.

You chose to make this an issue by wildly exaggerating the attacks you endured. Furthermore, you lamented how wrong BP was to allow this outrage. Rather than realize, hmm, maybe that was an unusual first post, you decided to drag the entire thread down into your personal emotional theater.

When multiple people told you it was not an insult and then moved on, you chose to restart the martyrdom again.

And now tonight we are on act three.

so you finally find somewhere that fits your interests, and you relish in that opportunity by making a scene repeatedly and scolding us for how out of line we are ?

Brilliant
Sorry if that's a crime.
Talk about irony, considering your reaction and classification of such a mild post by mike was.

If someone is out of line, they will be dealt with. Privately.

And repeatedly trashing the community, moderators while creating and reviving squabbles is only going to make things worse and more absurd.

When a poster decides to start a public fight with the entire board, then there is little option for a private intervention.

A moderator who can't stay above the fray/let anything go?

Wow, I'm going to get banned with less than 20 posts over a [censored]y little grudge. No wonder the traffic here is so bad.

:slappy:

I'm beginning to love this guy. Please let him stay! We haven't had tibor around in a while.

Title of board:

Poliblah.

Maybe you guys should stick to sucking each other off over the Bucks?

You're hilarious. Seriously.

I tell you what I'll do.

I like the ocean. I know that NOAA is really big on that. I'm going to go see if they have a forum where I can discuss things that are happening within Oregon. I'm sure there will be a lot of interesting discourse.
