I always wondered what this was all about. First, it's a keychain. How useful is a knife that small? And two....a crucifix? Um.......what? Is it a cholo accessory?

Great find on the website - I had the one above and then this one later. I loved this knife - it's probably still in my mom's basement.

My around the house outdoors beater is a Swamp Rat - Rat Trap

Greenies to IV for starting the thread. Just learned that the Buck folks will put a factory edge back on it for $10.00. (tons of scouts practicing sharpening it with wet stones has not helped the edge:biggrin:)

it's a very nice service, huh? Benchmade does the same thing with their Lifesharp program. anything goes wrong, just send it in, and they'll sharpen it and give it a tune-up...

i think Spyderco has a similar policy... but i lost my Delica. :( guess i'll have to buy a Native.

I've got assorted sizes of Spyderco's around my house. A Buck hunting fixed blade my grandpa gave me the year he died.

A few decorative short swords and daggers on show here and there. I also have one of these. My mother gave it to me when I was 17 and leaving the house.

I don't carry a knife in my pocket regularly anymore but I do have a multi-tool that lives in my car. At work I have a mini-multi tool with our logo on it.

Cold Steel regularly has "lot sales" about an hour away from where I live. I hope this year to pick up a few more things.

The Mnandi was a gift and I traded for the Rat.

nice.

I think they are one of the great values out there, especially the RTAK line.

For the most part they're well made and not overpriced. I would definitely try to handle them both before making a decision, I think the only real difference is in the hilt so you'll probably want to see which one feels best in your hand.

FWIW my current small field knive is from Bark River. I had a buddy clue me on to them and I have to admit I've been very impressed so far. they have abot the best fit & finish and attention to detail I've seen on a factory knife and it fits my hand better than anything else I've used.

I'm mainly using their USMC Wet Enviro Recon model:

Yes the name is lame but I didn't pick it up because the Marine Corps bought some. The Corps bought them for the same reason I did, because they are just well made knives.

The buddy I mentioned is an instructor at the Mountain Warfare School in Bridgeport and uses a Bravo 1 daily.

The best part is they aren't ridiculously overpriced for the collector market. KnivesShipFree carries most of their models and depending on your choice of handle material you should be able to find one that suits you in the $150 range.

Centerfinger has a good review.

----I'm also waiting for a MKI from Rod Garcia of Skookum Bush Tool.

tanknifeni9.jpg

The waiting list is 6 months or so right now because he really does make them himself but the feedback so far has been very positive from everyone who's gotten one.

You can order them directly from him for $200 shipping including.

Outdoor Magazine has a great review for the knife and Rod's philosophy in designing it.

----If someone is looking for the absolute best value out there then they absolutely MUST stop by Ragweed Forge. Ragnar imports several lines of Scandinavian blades that are just unfairly inexpensive.

A Frosts Mora for $11 ($13 if you want stainless instead of carbon steel) is absolutely insane.

Yes the hilt and sheath are plasticy and ugly but the blade is good steel and there is nothing else in the price range (or 2-3x) that comes remotely close.

One of the stainless ones is in my emergency kit in the truck of the car and I use another one as a paring knife.

LOL. why am i not surprised to see you pimping the Mora... i actually have a couple...
