PM / Database Problems?

Anyone having a problem with their Private Messages? I just tried to access them and got a error message. I sent Clarity & LongwoodBuck an Email, but maybe they will see this here as well.

There seems to have been a slight problem with the BuckeyePlanet Ohio State Forums database.

One of the partitions filled up to max capacity.

Managed to create a little space, but not much. Most of what's in there is mission critical, and me nuking and moving stuff comes at the risk of mangling the functioning of the site.

I may have to find someone with more of a clue to get in there and buy us some time. It was at 99%, now it's at 98%...

Anyway, the errors should go away briefly.

I had almost 4000 PMs in my account, between my Inbox and Sent PMs. I just cleaned out over 500 old PMs from my Sent folder, and will eventually clean all but a few out, and then do the same for my Inbox. I know at least one person here on the site who had his allotment of 10000 PMs filled and had to clear some out just to get new PMs. I'm sure there are quite a few of us, especially admins and mods, who have a ton of PMs stored.

I think we may want to ask members to police their PM folders once in a while, and do the same ourselves. With 4000+ members, I'm sure that PMs, although singularly small in size, quickly end up taking a shit load of database space.

if we all delete our PMs...will that free up some space?

It certainly will.

Not asking anyone to empty their PM folders entirely, nor is any action at all necessary. But if going through and organizing (deleting old stuff, keeping 'keepers') is something that's overdue for you, now is good. :)

Just spent a couple more beers worth of deleting. Went from just under 4000 PMs stored to 81 total. Hopefully I can get into the habit of cleaning out shit at least once a month...PMs add up faster than you think.
