  • Has anyone tried this streaming service? Now that it is available on the Roku, I have been looking at it. I currently use Sling. This seems to have some advantages - regional Fox sports networks, BTN, a DVR function, more channels, etc.

I have not actually tried it yet. There is a free 7 day trial that I will do. May have some time next week.

I have seen some comments that the Roku UI is pretty bare bones and may not have a functioning guide yet.

Hopefully the commercials will be at about the same volume. On Sling they tend to be a LOT louder.

I'm interested in thoughts on how it works on Roku as well. Trying to decide between that and a Fire TV for the living room (Fire TV supposedly has the same UI as on a Playstation, but not sure how DVR functions would work since it doesn't have built in storage like a Playstation), and probably getting Fire Sticks for the two bedrooms. Not 100% sure I'll be moving to streaming, but it certainly looks like a great than 50% chance right now.

In general I've heard that fire sticks are junk, of course I think most sticks are that way.

We really enjoy our rokus for plex, Netflix, Hulu, watchespn and Btn, though one of them does need to be unplugged and reset every so often since there is no power button.

It looks like I have to stick with my tablo tuner and antenna (which I never got around to setting up fully) for local stations. For now that's not an option in Columbus and I'm not holding my breath they they work out the carriage arrangements with a cord cutting service.

It seems like you need at least a Roku 3 for Vue, though, and I'd prefer to not spend $80+ on devices for each room.

For broadcast channels I thankfully live on a high point in the area, above the visible tree line to the horizon in all northward directions, which is where all the local stations are, so I don't expect any issues with an antenna for that purpose (if I even need to, might be able to just plug into the wall).
