PK Blake Haubeil (3rd Team All B1G)

Top 10 most accurate returning college kickers in 2020

10. BLAKE HAUBEIL — OHIO STATE

2019 percentage: 86.7 percent

What he did: Haubeil was perfect on kicks from 20-29 yards and from 40-55 yards. His season-long was a 55-yard attempt. But his two misses both came in the 30-39-yard range, which is a rather crucial area. Still, though, Haubeil is a reliable kicker and should improve even more in 2020.

Agreed, I would expect him to improve on that percentage in 2020 too.

On Tuesday, Day wasn’t willing to make a declaration on whether or not Haubeil will be available Saturday when the Buckeyes face Rutgers.

“I don't know exactly how long it's going to be with Blake, if he'll be ready tomorrow or it's kind of a day-to-day thing,” Day said.

Should Haubeil remained sidelined, DiMaccio and freshman Jake Seibert would be the candidates to fill in against the Scarlet Knights.

DiMaccio, in his third year at Ohio State, is 5-for-6 in his career on extra points. Last week’s two attempts were his first field goal attempts as a Buckeye.

Seibert, a true freshman, did not travel with the team last week and has not attempted a kick yet. However, he’s in line to replace Haubeil next year as Ohio State’s kicker. He’s grayshirting this season, meaning he’s a walk-on right now but is in line to have a scholarship next year.

“Jake's definitely an option,” Day said. “He came here for a reason. Especially now with the rule where this year really doesn't count (for eligibility purposes), he's definitely an option.”

Just sayin': I'll go out on a limb here and say Haubeil has a good chance to make the team. Currently the only other place kicker (i.e. Tucker McCann*) on the Titans roster has never kicked in a NFL game either.

* McCann (undisclosed) signed a reserve/future contract with the Titans on Monday (May 7, 2020). An undrafted rookie out of Missouri, McCann lost the kicking competition to Stephen Gostkowski during training camp, and he spent the rest of the season on the practice squad.

Veteran Stephen Gostkowski was a complete disaster in 2020, converting just 69.2 percent of his field goal attempts. That's a number that would have gotten basically any other kicker cut. Now 37, Gostkowski is headed to free agency. Vrabel has said he "needs to talk" to Gostkowski, but we would assume the Titans will be going in a different direction. Gostkowski who made $2.7M in 2020 is unsigned for 2021.

As for how the battle is going, it hasn’t really gotten off the ground, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel recently said. Neither have attempted a field goal in the pros.

“That’s where the battle is at now. There’s not really much of a battle. There’s no rush,” head coach Mike Vrabel said, via Terry McCormick of TitanInsider.com. “We have to put them in situations and evaluate them a lot more in training camp and in preseason. But, they’re both working hard and we’re excited to see where that competition leads and then we’ll have to make a decision at that point in time if that’s what’s best for the team and one of those guys moving forward. Everything that we’ve seen thus far, those guys are continuing to improve and work with the timing and the operation with [long snapper] Morgan [Cox] and with [holder] Brett [Kern].”
