Pittsburgh Pirates (5x WS Champions) Ain't Nutting happenin'

How 'bout them Pirates? Epic beatdown in progress at the hands of the Cubs, if anyone isn't watching.

Fantasy line of the day:

D Lee
4-4, 10 RBI, 2 R, BB

By the way, it's the 4th inning.

Congrats to the Cubbies. I guess this makes up for 100 years without a World Series title. :wink2:

Earlier this season the Brewers were riding a 17 game winning streak over Pittsburgh. Tonight, the Bucs completed a three game sweep of the Brew Crew. Go figure. :tongue2:

PITTSBURGH (AP)?Charlie Morton(notes) pitched into the seventh inning after a disastrous start in his previous outing and the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds 5-2 on Friday night for their fourth straight victory.

The teams wore replica 1979 jerseys in honor of the Pirates? most recent World Series championship team. The Pirates beat the Reds in the NLCS that season.

5:51pm: Kovacevic is reporting that the minor leaguer is AA pitcher Tim Alderson. This is an impressive haul for Freddy Sanchez--Alderson was ranked the #4 prospect in the Giants' system by Baseball America. What we thought was a salary dump deal has turned into a pretty solid coup for the Pirates.

Since the AS break Sanchez is batting .232 with 5 RBI. He is now on the DL with a shoulder injury (he missed part of last year with shoulder issues). His replacement at 2B, Delwyn Young, has gone .313 with 18 RBI.

As for Tim Alderson, he's 8-1 in AA this year.

Might the Pirates get the better of the trade? Early returns are positive.

:slappy: classic ending there

Capps blows the save and then Lidge matches

Just another night at the ball park for both guys this year. They both have ERAs over 6.00 and a combined record of 3-13.

Hard to believe but the Bucs are actually 35-29 at home. Unfortunately, they have the fewest road wins in all of baseball. The 7-2 home stand has been followed by 6 straight beat downs on the road. :shake:

Charlie Morton started at Wrigley that day and gave up 10 runs in the first inning. Today, seven weeks later, Charlie Morton pitched a complete game, 4 hit shut out at Wrigley Field.

Go figure.

And the Bucs pound Carlos Zambrano, 8-2, to complete the doubleheader sweep...their first on the road since 1996. :ohwell:

Thanks for posting. Don't get a lot of positive news on the Bucs. :)

Ohlendorf, 27, had a breakout season this year, winning 11 games as a starter for the last-place Pirates and posting a 3.92 ERA. He was drafted in 2004 by the Arizona Diamondbacks, who traded him to the New York Yankees as part of the deal that brought Randy Johnson back to Arizona. New York later shipped him to Pittsburgh in another multiplayer trade.

Ohlendorf's college thesis was on the investment return for major league teams on draft choices.

ESPN's Tim Kurkjian has written that Ohlendorf "may be the smartest player in baseball and the smartest person in almost any room he enters."

I'd like to read that thesis.
