Pittsburgh Pirates (5x WS Champions) Ain't Nutting happenin'

Finished.

Meh, trading Cole doesn't bother me. He's been complaining the last 2 years while his performance declined (when he wasn't on the DL). Unless you thought he was going to lead the Bucs to the promised land on his way out the door, I'd rather get something now than watch him leave next year. That said, I suspect he'll magically rebound in Houston.

If/when they trade Cutch I'll feel differently. He has stated he wants to be a Pirate, is a great guy in the community and a leader in the clubhouse.

No point in even creating a new thread for 2018. Nobody fucking cares, hell I barely care anymore. :ohbrother:

Winter meetings ended with the Bucs biggest decision being the selection of the kosher meal option at dinner. Free agents? Get the fuck outta here. It's about the farm system. Then when they get too expensive, trade them for more prospects. Wash, rinse repeat. With any luck, you might catch lightning in a bottle for 3 years every quarter century. It probably won't ever be enough to win another title but it'll give the fans just enough hope to keep showing up for t-shirts, bobbleheads, and fireworks shows.

Can't wait for Spring training!

Come over to the dark side.

Pretty sure I was already there, based on my Harry Doyle post from January 2nd.

Dumb move by the Bucs on so many levels. Cole didn't give a shit about the city. He complained a lot and made no bones about leaving as soon as he could. Cutch, on the other hand, wanted to spend his entire career as a Pirate. For all they got out of trading him, they'd have been better off letting his contract expire then letting him decide if he wanted to leave or sign a home town deal.

By trading him for a couple of kids they alienated what's left of the fan base. I sure won't be spending any money on them any time soon.

I can't imagine the frustration of being a Pirates fan. We bitch about rooting for a "small market" club like the Tribe, but at least ownership has shown some willingness to spend, especially striking when they are close. Yeah, there have been fire sales, and there will be more; but in reality, the Tribe has been one of the more successful "small market" franchises in MLB. They've had runs in the late 90's to early 2000's, again in the mid-2000's and have been pretty competitive since Tito came on in 2013. The Pirates are just cheap as all hell.
