Pitt fires Mike Haywood

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Pittsburgh has fired football coach Mike Haywood on Saturday following his arrest on a domestic violence charge that was upgraded to a felony.
"After careful consideration of recent events, the University of Pittsburgh has dismissed Michael Haywood as its head football coach, effective immediately. He was advised of that action this afternoon," the school said in statement.
Haywood was released on $1,000 cash bond following an incident at his South Bend, Ind., home, said an officer at the St. Joseph County Jail who declined to give her name. She said Haywood was scheduled to appear in court at 1 p.m. on Monday.

Makes sense to me....I mean how do you go into a recruit's house and talk to the parents about making him an upstanding young man after something like this....not to mention all the other things that are wrong about this....

I'm wondering if the way that the Lizzy Seeberg case (the St. Mary's student who accused an ND football player of sexual battery, and then committed suicide a few days later) was handled had anything to do with the prosecutor in South Bend wanting to appear tougher on violence against women.

Next to George O'Leary at Notre Dame.

Re: Pittsburgh fired football coach Mike Haywood on Saturday, saying he could not continue in the job he held for only 2 1/2 weeks because of his arrest on a domestic violence charge.

In case you are wondering, O'Leary still holds the record (i.e. 5 days).

Also in the top ten is Dan Dakich, who was the WVU basketball coach for 7 days and quit after finding out about NCAA violations the school did not disclose to him and/or failing to get a raise during the first week on the job.
