Pitt and Beanie Fundraiser Issue (split and merged)

There was an odd news piece concerning Beanie and Pittman. Hopefully action taken per advice of Bollmann prevents any negative consequences.
Putting more of very long article in quoted section than usual to eliminate possible misunderstandings - relevant information on intent, action and eventual use of monies in the quoted section.
No monies from the dinner went to the named athletes who attended the dinner, nor, as originally intended, to help defray the travel expenses of the four families of the players who are going to the game and come from the Akron-Canton area.
De'Angelo Haslam and Lawrence Wilson are the other two athletes who were present, though they left before the dinner happened, and neither they, nor their families received any monies.

Questions raised about fundraiser

Dinner for Akron families of four Ohio State athletes may violate NCAA rules

By Bill Lilley

Beacon Journal staff writer

Organizer Dawn Stigger-Ferguson's biggest fear prior to Saturday's Ohio State Buckeye Parents Fundraiser Spaghetti Dinner in Akron was the threat that most people would be too busy preparing for Christmas to come to a benefit dinner.
<snip>
Ohio State offensive coordinator Jim Bollman said he did not know how to react and did not know exactly what will result after being informed that two Ohio State running backs, junior starter Antonio Pittman of Buchtel and freshman standout Chris Wells of Garfield, were at the fundraising dinner.
<snip>

Bollman said he told Paulette Wells that a benefit dinner for families of players is not permitted by the NCAA.
Bollman advised her to have her son and Pittman leave the dinner. They did.
<snip>
Based on Bollman's advice, the families declined money from the dinner.
Stigger-Ferguson said the money raised at the spaghetti dinner would go to the East and South pee-wee football associations.
She said the initial premise of the dinner was to raise money to send the families of the four players from Akron on the Ohio State team to watch the Buckeyes play Florida in the BCS Championship Game in Tempe, Ariz., on Jan. 8.

I do not envy them the 'talking-to' that they're going to get. THINK!

Should my family take money? at least call the compliance office for an OK.

How silly would we look going into the NC game without our top two running backs? (I know, it's unlikely, just throwing it out there)

Buckeyes RBs leave benefit over NCAA concerns

AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Two Ohio State players left a fundraiser to help their families attend the upcoming national championship game because of concerns the benefit violated NCAA rules, the team's offensive coordinator said.

Running backs Antonio Pittman and Chris Wells, both of Akron, were at the spaghetti dinner fundraiser Saturday when Wells' mother called Ohio State offensive coordinator Jim Bollman to explain the situation.
Bollman told the Akron Beacon Journal that he informed her that National Collegiate Athletic Association rules do not allow benefit dinners for players' families, and he advised her to have Wells and Pittman leave, which they did.

Bollman said he didn't know if the players could get in trouble.

It might be Christmas, but it likely will be a day or two before Ohio State?s top two running backs Antonio Pittman and Chris Wells will know whether they can be merry.

It seems silly to me that a community, totally independent from tOSU, cannot have a fundraiser to send some player's parents to the game. NCAA rules are ridiculous!

It is silly then when a sports agent assisting these so call "communities" by offering the players' parents a house near the universities so they can attend their son's/daughter's game? How about the BP community help raise fund and buy TS a reliable vehicle? Where do you draw the line? I think this is a good rule to have so that those wealthier "communities" do not have potential influence over a recruit.
