two points
1) I venture to say.. that all pitchers were outstanding hitters earlier in their lives.. think of it.. the stud pitcher of your Little League and high school teams was most likely some of the best hitters on the team.. often the best .. CC Sabathia was a fabulous hitter in HS..
Tom Verducci (lead baseball writer for SI) wrote that every pro could be taught to hit a major league fastball.. that the batting instructors are gurus.. whether the pitcher can hit any other pitch separates them from the pack
Maybe the opposing pitchers had brain farts and thought "I'll get ahead of this turkey by throwing something hard and straight down the middle"
2) I just loved the story the other day.. think it was St Louis opening day at their new park.. and the Card pitcher hit his first major league HR in the very first opening day at the new park..
