Guarantee you that the professor will be made to pay for that phone. Now, don't get me wrong...personally, I think it was neat he did it, since the offending student was self-centered enough to disturb the class by continuing to talk. But, the prof had no right to purposely damage the phone...just confiscate it, throw the student out for the rest of the lecture, and then give it back to the student after class was over with a warning that the next infraction would result in the student being thrown out of class permanently. Still funny shit, though...

as a true hater of cell phones and the jackasses surgically connected to them, the response was rather nice to see. the phone going off is one thing. the student continuing to talk, let alone answer it, is quite another. i don't agree with the professor's response, but i do appreciate it.

Ya, the kid is obviously a fuckin piece, but nonetheless that professor went nuts. The funniest thing is how calm the professor was. He didn't say anything, didn't freak out, and barely even stopped with the lecture.
It also sounds like it is the first day of class too if you listen to what he saying.

Someone's been watching the factor...

as far as that prof goes, i would not have taken that as well as this student did. he was way out of line. i don't understand why this cell phone thing is such a big issue. i had an accounting teacher (ziegler at osu, if you were a business major recently you know who i'm talking about) that would drop your grade a whole letter on the spot if your phone went off in class. she made it clear from day 1. you know what, not once did a phone ring in that class all quarter. it really is that simple!

I got $20 says it was staged. And staged well. But I would have paid good money to have the professor turn to the student and say,

"Can you hear me now?"

I could see one of my professors doing this. He actually has in his syllabus that if anyone answers their cell phone in the classroom while class discussion is occurring, it will result in an automatic failure of the course.
