I'm surprised by the statements of "not interested in the Tennessee job" by the various coaches, usually coaches that aren't interested act like they are interested in hopes of getting a new (i.e. more money) contract from their current school. :biggrin:

Spurrier, Duke's Cutcliffe, UNC's Davis say they're content in current jobs

Cross one prot?g?, one nemesis and a former NFL coach off any wish list of successors to lame-duck Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer.
Duke coach David Cutcliffe quashed any speculation about him returning to Knoxville to replace his good friend and former boss, while Steve Spurrier said his current job at South Carolina will be his last as a college football coach.
And later Tuesday, ex-Miami and Cleveland Browns coach Butch Davis said he's staying at North Carolina.
"I'm at Duke, staying at Duke," Cutcliffe said Tuesday.

Texas Tech AD Myers says he will renegotiate Leach's contract after season

In the wake of reaching the highest ranking in school history, Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers said Tuesday he plans to renegotiate coach Mike Leach's current contract at the end of the season.
The No. 2 Red Raiders' 11-game winning streak is the longest among all FBS schools. After beating No. 1 Texas last week, Tech is in first place in the Big 12's South Division and is in position to contend for the national championship and the first Big 12 title in school history.

Leach is in the third year of a current five-year deal with Texas Tech and can buy his way out of his contract for $500,000, Bloomberg reported. His name has popped up on the list of potential replacements for vacancies at both Washington and Tennessee.
Leach has a base salary with the Red Raiders of $300,000 per year in a contract that also assures him $1.45 million in outside income from radio and television deals, merchandise contracts, speaking engagements, sports camps and apparel deals, Bloomberg reported.

UT Coach Search Continues, Fulmer to Clemson?

Knoxville, TN (WVLT-TV) , The UT football team returned to practice on Tuesday during this off week for the Vols. Meanwhile, off the field. speculation continues to swirl regarding coach Fulmer's replacement. Another name which has surfaced is that of Troy Calhoun. He's in the second year at the Air Force Academy after replacing long time coach Fisher Deberry there. calhoun is a 1989 graduate of the Academy and has his Falcons sitting at 8-2 heading into this weekends game with number 16 BYU.
Calhoun also has NFL coaching experience. he was the Quarterbacks coach with the Houston texans back in 2006. Singing the praises of coach calhoun is writer Mike Kiszia of the Denver Post who writes, "..If I were the athletic Director at tennessee or Washington or any University with a football budget as huge as it's stadium and not enough victories to keep the boosters happy in their expensive club seats, then at the top of my short list of candidates would be the 42 year-old Calhoun."
Texas Tech coach Mike Leach continues to be a name on just about everyone's speculation chart as being a stong candidate for the UT coaching job. He falls into the category of successful coaches getting the job done with less. He certainly would have alot more to work with in Big Orange Country.
Continuing to deny interest, but remaining on the radar as UT's top choice according to our partners at GoVolsxtra.com, Carolina coach Butch Davis.
So we've been talking about coach Fulmer's possible replacement, but what about the current dean of SEC coaches and where might he end up should he decide to stay in the coaching profession?
How about Clemson? Sources close to the National Football Post Foundation tell them that the Tigers may be interested in hiring Fulmer to replace Tommy Bowden. Auburn's Tommy Tuberville is also thought to be a candidate for the job.
Sources in the palmetto state tell me they've only heard subtle conversations about a potential Fulmer hire by Clemson.

University of Tennessee offers Butch Davis $3 mil a year

Tennessee is putting most of its eggs -- not to mention $3 million-plus a year -- into Butch Davis' basket. It's the right move. Whether Davis will take the bait is another matter. While some will question the hiring of anyone (I often wonder if the second coming of Bob Neyland would be panned in some circles), Davis is the best candidate out there. He can coach. hil Fulmer was approached by some UT big-wigs, who inquired about the possibility of him running for a state house spot. He says he's not done coaching. Less than 10 months ago he stepped down as Tennessee's head coach, but not necessarily willingly. UT fans and administration had become restless, and in early November he agreed to step away at the end of the season. "I'm still PO'd to say the least. There's probably a couple of people there that I'm not going to invite to Christmas dinner any time soon," Fulmer said. "I've chosen the best I can to take the high road. I really love Tennessee, so let there be no doubt about that. It's very much a part of me."

Phillip Fulmer to Minnesota?

Phillip Fulmer has made no secret of the fact that he is interested in getting back into coaching. He wasn't ready to leave Tennessee when Mike Hamilton pushed him out the door, that's for sure. Plus at age 60, he's five years younger than Steve Spurrier and only a year older than Nick Saban. He could have plenty of coaching years left.

He's also said he wants to go to a program with history. With that in mind, it kind of makes sense when you see this:

...and Fulmer is quoted as saying this:

"Minnesota has great potential, and with its new facilities it's a place you could recruit to," Fulmer told the News Sentinel on Tuesday night. "I believe it's a place where you can compete."

Re: East Tennessee State had an 80-year football tradition before shutting its program. A bid to revive the program during the 2006-07 school year failed when students voted down a $200 fee increase.

The decision to restart football came after a $125-per-semester student fee increase was approved by the Tennessee Board of Regents last week and by East Tennessee State?s student government association in January.

Doesn't say if the students got to vote on the (recent) $125 increase.
